Victim Identified in Downtown Homicide

Following an autopsy by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, the victim of a suspicious death has been identified, and the death has been deemed a homicide.

Just before 11 p.m., Sunday, July 27, 2014, police were called to a waterpark in the area of 8 Street and 7 Avenue S.W. for reports of a man in medical distress. A man in his 30s was found unconscious and was transported to hospital where he later died.

Investigators believe the man was approached by another man and struck in what appears to be an unprovoked attack. It is believed the offender and the victim were known to each other and the incident is not considered random.

Following an autopsy performed yesterday, Monday, July 28, 2014, the victim has been identified as Brian BLACKKETTLE, 35.

This is Calgary’s 22nd homicide of 2014.

Investigators continue to review CCTV footage and wish to speak with anyone who may have information about the incident.

Anyone who was in the area, or who may have information, is asked to call police at 403-266-1234 or Crime Stoppers anonymously using any of the following methods:
