Today at approximately 2:30 p.m. the Calgary Fire Department responded to a vehicle fire on the Glenmore Trail causeway just below the 14 Street S.W. flyover. When firefighters arrived a tanker truck with two full trailers of gasoline was on fire. The driver escaped without injury just as the blaze broke out. The cab of the truck was fully engulfed in flames but crews knocked down the fire before it ignited the tanker cars. The CFD hazardous material team was called out to ensure the run-off from the suppression efforts and ruptured saddletanks did not get into the storm sewer. Traffic was allowed to travel through the east bound lanes after 30 minutes of delays and a westbound lane was opened up shortly after. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
