Serious injury collision involving pedestrian

The Calgary Police Service is investigating a serious injury collision involving a pedestrian.

At approximately 11 a.m. today, Wednesday, Apr. 23, 2014, a 43 year-old woman was driving eastbound on 32 Avenue N.W. in a black 2008 Chevrolet Aveo. She approached the intersection of 32 Avenue and 33 Street N.W. where four other vehicles were stopped at a marked crosswalk. The overhead pedestrian crossing light was illuminated at the time. The Chevrolet failed to stop at the intersection and struck a 20 year-old male who was crossing the street on a skateboard on his way to university.

The young man was transported to hospital and remains in critical life threatening condition.

At this time alcohol and drugs are not considered to be a factor. Charges are pending against the driver of the Chevrolet.
