September death ruled a homicide

The Calgary Police Service has concluded its investigation into the death of a 19-year-old woman and has deemed it a homicide.

The woman, identified by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner as Jessica HAGAN, was found deceased inside her home in the 100 block of Cranarch Circle S.E., around 5:15 p.m., on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2015.

A female family member in her 50s, was also found inside the home in medical distress. She was taken to hospital for treatment.

Following an investigation by the CPS Homicide Unit, HAGAN’s death has been deemed domestic in nature, and that the female family member found inside the home was responsible for the victim’s death. HAGAN died as the result of an intentional administration of drugs given by the female family member.

This family member has since passed away from an existing medical condition, therefore, the case has now been cleared without a charge.

To respect the privacy of the HAGAN family, no further comments will be made or details released.

Calgary has had 34 homicides since the beginning of 2015.
