Man charged in fatal hit and run

A man has been charged in relation to a fatal hit and run collision that occurred earlier this week.

At approximately 11:15 p.m., yesterday, Monday, July 27, 2015, a woman was crossing the street at a marked crosswalk at Centre Street North and 43 Avenue, when she was struck by a southbound vehicle. The vehicle did not remain at the scene.  

The victim, 33, was transported to hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries.

Through investigation of the scene and debris left behind, the vehicle, a silver Buick Regal, was located in the 6400 block of 4 Street N.E. a few hours later.

After identifying and locating the vehicle used in the collision, further enquiries led to the identification of the man believed to be the driver at the time of the incident.

Robert Mark VARLEY, 58, has been charged with hit and run causing death.
