Man charged in August shooting incident

The Calgary Police Service Guns and Gangs Unit has arrested a man believed responsible for a shooting that took place in August.

At approximately 7:20 p.m., on Saturday, Aug. 15, 2015, officers were called to the 100 block of Whitehorn Crescent N.E., for reports of gunshots heard in the area. Investigators determined that shots were fired from a moving vehicle at the victim while he was in his vehicle. The victim and the accused are believed to know one another, however, the victim was uncooperative with police.

Following an investigation, with assistance from District 5 and the Airport Unit, a man was arrested at Calgary International Airport without incident on Saturday, Nov. 21, 2015.

Tarek EL-RAFIE, 24, of Calgary, has been charged with one count each of discharging a firearm to endanger life, use of a firearm in a careless manner, occupant of a motor vehicle with knowledge of a restricted weapon, possessing a restricted weapon without a license to possess, possessing a restricted weapon without a license, possessing a restricted weapon without a registration, possessing a restricted weapon knowing that he was not the holder of a license, dangerous driving, assault of a peace officer to resist arrest, assault with a weapon, resisting arrest and unlawfully escaping custody.

EL-RAFIE was released by the courts on a recognizance. His next court date is unknown at this time.
