Holiday Season 2014 Hours of Operation

The City of Calgary is adjusting its hours of operation for services and facilities during the holiday season.

Calgary Transit
For more information on fares, schedules and a complete listing of holiday service adjustments, visit calgarytransit.com, call Teleride at 403-974-4000, or Calgary Transit Customer Service at 403-262-1000.

Holiday service is effective Monday, December 22 through Monday, January 5.

Monday, Dec. 22: all school trips cancelled as per holiday school closures.
Wednesday, Dec. 24 (Christmas Eve): CTrain: Regular weekday service Bus: some trips cancelled, check the schedules page for more info.
Thursday, Dec. 25 (Christmas Day): Ride free all dayCTrain: Trains running every 15 minutes throughout the day, then every 30 minutes from 10 p.m. – 12:30 a.m. Bus: Service every 30-45 minutes on Routes 1, 3, 14, 20, 72, 73, 100, 300 and 301.
Friday, Dec. 26 (Boxing Day): Sunday level of service for both CTrain and buses.
Wednesday, Dec. 31 (New Year's EveCTrain: Extended night service with last train leaving downtown at 3 a.m. Trains running every 15 minutes. Bus: Extended night service on some routes. Check our New Year’s service page for more info. 
Thursday, Jan. 1 (New Year’s Day): Sunday level of service for both CTrain and buses. 
Friday, Jan.2: CTrain: Regular weekday service Bus: some trips cancelled on select routes. Check the schedules page for more info.

Important Fare Increases
Effective January 1, 2015 Calgary Transit Fares for Adult and Youth single tickets, books of 10 tickets and monthly passes will be increasing. Please visit our fares page for more information.

Residential Waste & Recycling Collection

Temporary Holiday changes:
There is no collection on Christmas Day (December 25) and New Year's Day (January 1). If you normally receive blue and black cart collection on Thursday, please put your carts out on the following days:

  • Monday, December 29, 2014
  • Monday, January 5, 2015

Regular waste and recycling collection will resume on Thursday, Jan. 8, 2014.

There are no changes to Tuesday, Wednesday or Friday collection over the holidays.

Christmas tree drop-off
City crews will begin pick up of real Christmas trees from households with black cart garbage collection on Jan. 9, 2015 at 7 a.m. We also have eight temporary drop-off locations, open from Dec. 26 to Jan. 31. Visit our website for a map of locations.

Community Recycling Depots
Collection at Community Recycling Depots is not affected during the Holiday season.

Landfills
For details about our holiday operations, please see the landfill holiday schedule. All three City operated landfills will be closed on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, but open on Boxing Day (December 26).

Spyhill Landfill

East Calgary Landfill

Open: 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Saturday.

 

Shepard Landfill

Open: 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Saturday.

 

 

 

Recreation

Aquatics and Fitness Centres
All aquatics and fitness centres will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day (Dec. 26) and New Year’s Day. Hours of operation between December 24 and January 4 vary. Please check Calgary.ca/Recreation for facility and program information.

New Year’s Eve Family Pool Party at VSLC
Swim, jump, splash and slide 2014 out the door! Bring the entire family; grandparents, children and friends for tons of fun. There will be a DJ pumping out the sounds as families enjoy the wave pool, inflatable toys, bouncers, arts/crafts, treats, prizes and so much more. You don't want to miss our pool party countdown!

New Year’s Eve Family Dance Party at City Hall
Ring in 2015 with this free, family-friendly, safe and warm party featuring music and activities for the young and young-at-heart. Enjoy games, crafts, and living statues. Wear neon, white or anything that glows, and bring your dancing shoes!

Arenas

All arenas will be closed on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, except for any advanced bookings.
The following arenas will have free skating from 1-2:30 p.m. on Boxing Day (Friday, Dec. 26):

Calgary Soccer Centre
The Calgary Soccer Centre will be open until noon on December 24 and closed December 25 and 26. The Soccer Centre will open on January 1 for evening games as scheduled for CMSA Winter Classic Tournament (the office will be closed on January 1).

Arts Centres
North Mount Pleasant and Wildflower Arts Centres are closed for the holiday season. Both re-open on Monday,  Jan. 5, 2015.

Parks

Nature Centre – Inglewood Bird Sanctuary
Closed Sunday, Monday and all statutory holidays.

Devonian Gardens
Devonian Gardens follow the same hours as the CORE Shopping Centre
