Enhanced Checkstops

The Calgary Police Service would like to remind Calgarians to have a safe Stampede by not drinking and driving.

Starting Friday, July 3, 2015, Enhanced Checkstops will run to complement the existing evening Checkstops that CPS runs year-round.

In 2014, a total of 46 people were charged with impaired driving related offences during the Stampede period.

To date in 2015, there have been 11 fatal collisions in Calgary, killing 12 people. Alcohol has been a factor in five of those collisions.

Police are also reminding Calgarians of the Report Impaired Driving (RID) campaign, which encourages motorists to call 911 if they suspect a driver is impaired.
