Email threats being investigated

On Thursday, Feb. 5, 2015, the Calgary Police Service received a threatening email relating to a small number of schools in the Calgary area.

Although the investigation continues, there is nothing to indicate these threats are legitimate and investigators are now working with other law enforcement agencies across North America to identify the source of the threat.  Making threats, whether in person or by email, is a criminal offence.

The Calgary Police Service takes school safety very seriously and when threats are received, there are established security protocols that are immediately activated. These include increased police presence around schools and working closely with school administration and staff to address any security concerns.

Parents, teachers and other related stakeholders at each of the schools threatened are being notified.

Parents, teachers and students are also encouraged to be vigilant about security in and around schools. Suspicious activities should always be reported to school administration or, if appropriate, to police.
