Calgary Transit would like to congratulate and welcome Doug Morgan as the new Director of Calgary Transit.
“Doug has the knowledge, skills, vision and, most importantly, the passion to lead Calgary Transit,” said outgoing Director Fred Wong. “I’m pleased to hand the reins of this great organization over to him as I am confident he will serve the best interests of Calgary Transit customers and employees.”
Morgan holds a Masters of Engineering and a Masters of Business Administration, both from the University of Calgary. He started his career with Reid Crowther and Partners in 1991 as a resident engineer for both roads and civil infrastructure projects and later a roadway design engineer.
He joined The City of Calgary in 1995 as a transportation engineer and has held progressively senior positions in Transportation.
Morgan spent 10 months as the acting manager of Transportation Data and was Executive Assistant to the General Manager of Transportation for more than 18 months before moving over to Calgary Transit as Manager of Service Design in May 2006.
Most recently, Morgan led RouteAhead, a 10-month project to examine Calgary Transit’s priorities, improvements and direction over the next 30 years and to develop a long-term strategy for transit in Calgary.
“We have made some really good improvements at Calgary Transit under Fred Wong’s leadership,” Morgan said. “I look forward to continuing these projects and leading Calgary Transit into the future. Very soon we will be implementing electronic fare payment and real time arrival information for buses. These are key initiatives to making the system more convenient for customers,” he said, noting real time CTrain displays have been operational since last year.
“Additionally we will be opening two LRT line extensions and West LRT.”
