Contractor Charged with Voyeurism

The Calgary Police Service has charged a local contractor with voyeurism.

It’s alleged that the man, who was operating a renovation company called The Good Shepherd Group, installed a covert camera and recording device inside a bathroom electrical socket during a contracted job. The resident of the home discovered the device and reported it to police where it was confirmed it contained compromising images of the two female residents.

It’s believed the device was installed sometime between Aug. 1 and Nov. 14, 2014, when the accused was conducting renovations at the Coventry home. The homeowners called police as soon as the device was located.

Ting Kay CHU, 43, of Calgary, who also uses the alias Tohmus Tikay CHU, is charged with two counts of voyeurism and two counts of failing to comply with a court order.

Investigators are asking anyone who may have work in progress, or have concerns about work completed by CHU or his company to contact them. The CPS is working alongside The City of Calgary Licensing Inspector as CHU does not hold a valid business licence.

Contractors who take payment before the work is complete and who look for work, discuss or finalize a contract away from a regular place of business must be licensed by Service Alberta and post a security deposit. They must use a contract that includes an itemized price list, completion date and a statement of consumers’ cancellation rights.
