Composite sketches released on one year anniversary of double homicide

The Calgary Police Service is asking for assistance from the community as it continues to investigate the double homicide of Don and Roxanne Carlson on the one year anniversary of their murder.

Just before 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014, the Calgary Fire Department responded to an alleged carbon monoxide complaint at a residence in the 12200 block of Lake Erie Road S.E. Inside the residence two people were found deceased.

Carbon monoxide was ruled out as a contributing factor and the CPS Homicide Unit was brought in to investigate.

Following autopsies completed on Monday, Feb. 17, 2014, the victims were identified as Don CARLSON, 59, and Roxanne CARLSON, 56. The cause of death has not been released.

As a result of the investigation to date, the Homicide Unit would like to release two composite drawings of men observed in the area on Friday, Feb. 14 and Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014.  Police would like to speak to these men regarding their presence near the Carlson residence.

The first man was observed by a witness on Lake Erie Road on Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014.  He is described as Caucasian, in his 40s, with long dirty blond hair and a slim build.

A second unknown man was observed in the 200 block of Lake Erie Road S.E. on Friday, Feb. 14, 2014. He is described as Caucasian, in his 30s, 6’ tall, with dark hair.

Composite sketches of both men are available on The City of Calgary Newsroom.

Police further believe that a newer silver or grey pickup truck, possibly a Toyota, was present near the Carlson's residence prior to their discovery.

The Calgary Police Service has teamed up with an anonymous contributor to offer a $25,000 reward for information directly responsible for the arrest and conviction of the party, or parties, responsible for the murder of Don and Roxanne Carlson.

To be eligible for this reward, anyone with information related to the homicide is asked to contact the Homicide Unit directly at homicidetips@calgarypolice.ca or by phone at (403) 428-8877.

Alternatively, members of the public who wish to remain anonymous can contact Crime Stoppers.
