Clean-up on the Elbow River and additional flood recovery efforts continue
August 29, 2013 01:25 PM Categories: City Services, Garbage Collection, Landfills, Water, Calgary 2013 Flood
The City of Calgary is continuing its flood recovery efforts with an organized river clean-up program starting Friday, August 30, 2013.
Water Services, in conjunction with Parks, Fire, Roads and Waste and Recycling, will begin cleanup on the Elbow River, focussing on more than 60 locations along the river, against river banks and bridges that have been identified as containing significant accumulations of debris.
Due to the nature of the debris (eg. large trees, construction materials, etc.) and the equipment required for its removal, some temporary pathways closures will be necessary. Calgarians are asked to obey all local closures and detours.
Removal of the debris is necessary as it poses potential hazards to those using the river as well as to fish and wildlife. Wherever possible, The City will ensure all materials are recycled. Clean-up is expected to be completed on the Elbow River within two weeks but may be extended if required.
Clean-up work on the Bow River will commence later this year and is expected to be completed in 2014.
