Calgary Fire Department responds to two alarm fire in Hidden Valley

At 5:00 this evening, 911 received multiple calls of a house fire at the 10700 block of Hidden Valley Drive NW. Immediately on arrival, the fire captain called a second alarm due to the large volume of fire which had already spread to neighbouring homes. Initially it was not known if anybody was inside at the time of the fire, however it was later established from one of the residents that nobody was in the home. The fast spread of the fire forced the quick evacuation of six children and two adults from the house next door. The intensity of the fire in the initial home created a flashover condition, preventing firefighters from entering. The structural integrity of the home was also compromised as a result of the fire and therefore was not able to be safely searched by fire crews. Firefighters used aerial ladders to fight the fire from above as well as master streams and hand lines on the ground to protect exposures and extinguish the fire. Four homes were damaged as a result of this fire. The source home suffered the most severe damage with two homes to the east being significantly damaged. The home immediately to the west was slightly damaged on the exterior. The fire is now out however fire crews will remain on scene to monitor and put out any hot spots. A Calgary Fire Department Fire Investigator is on scene and has started his investigation. Calgary Police Service Arson Investigators are also on scene as is protocol for any large dollar loss fire. No injuries have been reported as a result of this fire.
