Calgary Fire Department responds to leak at downtown building

 

 

 

Today at 12:05 p.m. the Calgary Fire Department responded to a report of a refrigerant leak at an office tower located on 9th Avenue and 4th Street S.W. Upon arrival to the building, fire crews evacuated the first and second floors and +15 walkways, where the highest concentrations of refrigerant were found. Occupants of the building's other floors were able to remain or to leave via a secured staircase. CFD Hazardous Materials team wore their protective equipment to enter the building at the leak location and have stopped the leak. Firefighters are now are using portable equipment to monitor air quality and they are ventilating the area. Employees of the building and public will be allowed back to the affected areas once firefighters have deemed the building safe.

Traffic on 9th Avenue is affected due to the presence of emergency vehicles.
