Calgary Fire Department Responds to Chlorine Leak at Talisman Center

At approximately 3:40 this morning, the Calgary Fire Department responded to reports of possible chlorine leak in the Talisman Center on MacLeod Trail south.  Upon arrival fire rescue crews met facility staff who indicated an alarm warning in the chlorine room.  Fire crews evacuated all staff from the complex and secured a ‘no entry zone’ to the scene with the assistance of the Calgary Police Service.  Fire Department Hazardous Material Response team members donned encapsulated suits and entered the chlorine room to shut off all chlorine supplies.  Air monitoring devices indicated chlorine levels were below hazardous levels at all times, but all necessary precautionary measures were taken to ensure public safety.  The initial cause of the leak remains under investigation. The building has been turned back over the facility staff.
