Calgary Fire Department reminds Calgarians about fire safety during hot and dry weather
A fire safety advisory remains in place for the city of Calgary and the Calgary Fire Department recommends all citizens be cautious when using outdoor open flames and when disposing of smoking materials. As southern Alberta municipalities start implementing fire bans and northern wildfires continue to burn, the Calgary Fire Department is watching weather conditions to ensure Calgary is prepared.
“With the Environment Canada long range forecast showing more hot weather predicted for Calgary we are continuing to monitor conditions and assess if further fire restrictions will be needed,” said Ed Kujat, Fire Marshal with the Calgary Fire Department. “Even though areas of the city appear to be quite green at this time, some of our natural areas may be at risk as grasses begin to dry with the weather conditions we are expecting.”
Calgarians are asked to be cautious in the city’s natural growth parks and green spaces where there are dry grasses and shrubs. Remember to only dispose of smoking materials in proper ashtrays and to limit outdoor fires to approved fire pits according to the Community Standards Bylaw.
Other Alberta municipal districts such as Black Diamond, and Turner Valley have recently declared fire bans. The Calgary Fire Department recommends checking with local municipalities if you are travelling in the Province.
