Calgary Fire Department Battles Two-Alarm Fire in New Brighton

Shortly after 1:00 this afternoon, Calgary fire crews responded to a house fire on Brightoncrest Heights, SE. On arrival, the Captain immediately called for a second alarm, due to the amount of fire and smoke visible. Three homes have suffered extensive damage but firefighters successfully prevented the spread of the fire to other homes. Only one home had people in it at the time of the fire, and they had evacuated prior to Calgary Fire Department (CFD) arrival. No injuries have been reported as a result of this fire. A total of 16 homes have been evacuated due to smoke and air quality concerns. Other area residents were asked to remain indoors while the crews continued to fight the fire. The fire is now under control, and CFD Fire Investigators are on scene.
