Calgary Fire crews fight a basement fire in Coach Hill

At 3:00 this afternoon, the Calgary Fire Department was called to a town house complex at the 7100 block of Coach Hill Road S.W. for reports of a basement fire. The call to 911 came from the resident of the townhouse who was alerted to the fire in her basement by her smoke alarm. She self evacuated the residence safely and was not injured. As the townhouse was less than a block from the local fire station, firefighters very quickly extinguished the fire, limiting spread and further damage. Crews then searched for extension and ventilated the building. The basement suffered fire damage however the entire home suffered smoke damage. Two other townhomes were evacuated as a precaution. Fire Investigators will be attending the scene to determine origin and cause.
