New information in fatal hit-and-run investigation

The family of the victim of a fatal hit-and-run is urging anyone with information about the incident to contact police as new details are being uncovered.

At approximately 2:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 13, 2020, a 2010 Dodge Journey, traveling at a high rate of speed on southbound 52 Street, close to the interchange with 16 Avenue N.E., was struck from behind by a 2008 Buick Allure.

The Dodge Journey crossed over the centre median and one male occupant was ejected from the vehicle. Ibaad YAR, 15, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Buick remained on scene for a short time before fleeing. Later in the day, it was located unoccupied in the Saddleridge area.

Police need to speak to a number of people who were in a Chevrolet Tahoe observed at a residence in the Saddleridge area prior to and after the offence.

“These people are believed to have knowledge of the incident says Staff Sergeant Colin Chisholm of the Calgary Police Service Homicide Unit. “The actions that night has led to tragic consequences and we remain committed to uncovering how this all came to be.”
