Municipal Emergency Plan - Parade route road closures and Stampede parking

Although The City of Calgary’s local state of emergency was lifted this morning there is still a great deal of recovery work to complete. Many of the areas hit hard by flooding are typically overwhelmed with parking issues during Stampede.
With vac trucks, cleaning equipment and heavy machinery parked in these areas for flood recovery work parking space is at an even greater premium this year. To ensure access for flood recovery workers, The City is asking Calgarians to take transit or a cab on parade day and the duration of Stampede.

Parade day road closures
Beginning at 7:30 a.m. on Friday, July 5, the following roadways will be closed for the 2013 Calgary Stampede parade:
  • Westbound 6 Avenue from 3 Street S.E. to 10 Street S.W.
  • 10 Street S.W. from 6 Avenue S.W. to 9 Avenue S.W.
  • Eastbound 9 Avenue from 10 Street S.W. to 3 Street S.E.
To avoid major delays get into downtown before 7 a.m.

The area east of the parade route in the East Village will also be closed for staging of floats.

All roadways are expected to re-open by 1 p.m.
