Motorists advised of significant traffic impacts this long-weekend on Calgary roads

Motorists are being advised of the following road/lane closures for Friday, Aug. 3 - Monday, Aug. 6, 2018:

Southwest closures

Westbound 8 Avenue S.W. will be closed at 5 Street S.W. beginning on Friday, August 3 at 7 p.m. until Saturday, August 4 at 5 a.m. This closure accommodates underground utility work.

8 Street S.W. will be closed between 8 Avenue and 10 Avenue S.W. starting Friday, August 3 at 7 p.m. until Tuesday, August 7 at 5 a.m. This closure accommodates underground utility work.

14 Street S.W. at Anderson Road will be closed to north / south through-traffic and all left turns will be restricted from 8 p.m. Friday, August 3 until 5 a.m. Tuesday, August 7. In addition, all eastbound through-traffic on Anderson Road will be put into the left turn bay to continue east. A flagger will be on site in an effort to keep traffic moving eastbound through the intersection. Traffic will be directed to Elbow Drive to bypass the closure. This work is required for the upgrade and development of the Anderson Road project.

Eastbound Glenmore Trail will have lanes closed west of Crowchild Trail S.W. and on the ramp from southbound Crowchild Trail to eastbound Glenmore Trail S.W. on Saturday, August 4 from 4 a.m. to 9 a.m. This closure accommodates construction.

Eastbound and Westbound Glenmore Trail between 37 Street S.W. and Crowchild Trail will have single lane closures between 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. from Thursday, August 2 until Friday, August 3; and from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, August 4 and Monday, August 6. This closure accommodates construction.

Northbound Centre Street S will be closed from Saturday, August 4 at 5 a.m. until Sunday, August 5 at 7 p.m. Two-way traffic will be set up in the southbound lanes. This closure accommodates paving.

Westbound Southland Drive will have a single lane closure between 19 Street S.W. & Palliser Drive S.W. on both Thursday, August 2 and Friday, August 3, all day and all night. This closure accommodates paving.

Westbound Southland Drive will be reduced to one lane just east and just west of 14 Street S.W. to Bradbury Drive. Eastbound Southland Drive will also be reduced to one lane from Bradbury Drive to 14 Street S.W. This will be in effect from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday, August 2, Friday and August 3 and between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturday, August 4. This closure accommodates construction.

Southbound 14 Street S.W. will be reduced to one lane, north and south of Southland Drive, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Thursday, August 2 and Friday, August 3. This closure accommodates construction.

Northbound 14 Street S.W. will be reduced to one lane, north and south of Southland Drive, between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturday, August 4. This closure accommodates construction.

Northbound 14 Street S.W. between 90 Avenue and Southland Drive will be reduced to one lane between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Thursday, August 2 and Friday, August 3 and between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturday, August 4. This closure accommodates construction.

Southeast closures

1 Street S.E. will have lanes closed at 6 Avenue S.E. starting Friday, August 3 at 8 p.m. until Tuesday, August 7 at 5 a.m. This closure accommodates construction.17 Avenue and 28 Street S.E. will experience full road closures and lanes closures starting Friday, August 3 at 7 p.m. until Tuesday, August 7 at 5 a.m. These closures accommodate construction.

Northwest closures

Southbound Crowchild Trail N.W. will have lanes closed at the Brentwood Station beginning Friday, August 3 at 8 p.m. until Tuesday, August 7 at 5 a.m. This closure accommodates maintenance work by Calgary Transit.

Northeast closures

26 Avenue N.E. will have lanes closed with a two-way traffic set-up between 32 and 36 Street N.E. on Saturday, August 4 from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m. These lane closures accommodate paving.

Traffic pattern change on Metis Trail at 80 Avenue N.E. starting Sunday, August 5 until early fall of 2018. This closure accommodates construction.

Special Event Road Closures

Chasing Summer - Saturday, Aug. 4 to Monday, Aug. 6 daily from 11 a.m. to 1 a.m.

Barlow Trail will be closed between Memorial Drive S.E. and 17 Avenue S.E. between 11 a.m. and 1 a.m. daily
The right lane of the exit ramp from eastbound Memorial Drive S.E. to Barlow Trail S.E. will be closed between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. daily to accommodate a taxi zone.
The exit ramp will be completely closed to all traffic except taxis between 8 p.m. and 1 a.m. daily
Speeds on westbound Memorial Drive S.E. will be restricted to 60 km/h during the event

Motorists are advised to watch for Police directing traffic in the area

Inglewood Sunfest – Saturday, August 4 from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

9 Avenue S.E. will be closed from 11 Street S.E. to 14 Street S.E.
12 Street S.E. and 13 Street S.E. will be closed north and south of 9 Avenue S.E. with local traffic only
There will be restricted parking on 8 Avenue S.E. between 11 Street S.E. and 14 Street S.E.
11 Street S.E., 12 Street S.E., 13 Street S.E. and 14 Street S.E. will have restricted parking between 8 Avenue S.E. and 10 Avenue S.E.

Marshals and Police will be directing traffic in the area. Motorists are advised to drive with caution, watch for cyclists and pedestrians and avoid the area by use alternate routes.

Tour De Bowness Hill Climb – Sunday, August 5 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Parking restrictions will be in place on Mackay Road N.W. from Montalban Crescent N.W. to 42 Street N.W.
Mackay Road N.W. will be reduced to single lanes northbound and southbound to accommodate climbers.

Motorists are advised to drive with caution, watch for pedestrians and avoid the area by use alternate routes.

Bow Cycle Tour de Bowness and Street Festival – Monday, August 6 from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Bowness Road N.W. will be closed between 62 Street N.W. and 66 Avenue N.W.
Bowwood Drive N.W. will be closed between 63 Street N.W. and 66 Avenue N.W.
36 Avenue N.W. will be closed at Bow Anne Road N.W.
63 Avenue N.W. will be closed between Bowness Road N.W. and Bow Crescent N.W.
64 Street N.W. will be closed between Bowness Road N.W. and Bow Crescent N.W.
65 Street N.W. will be closed between Bowness Road N.W. and Bow Crescent N.W.
A vehicle detour will be indicated via signage along Bow Crescent N.W.
Restricted parking will be in place along Bowwood Drive N.W., Bowness Road N.W. and Bow Crescent N.W. and the corresponding Streets.

There will be marshals and police present to direct traffic. Motorists are advised to drive with caution, watch for cyclists and pedestrians and avoid the area by using alternate routes.
