Man charged with attempted murder
The Calgary Police Service has charged a man with two counts of attempted murder stemming from an incident that occurred earlier this week.
On Monday, Dec. 4, 2017, at approximately 6 p.m., a woman and man drove up to a residence, located in the 1200 block of Ranch View Road N.W., and pulled into the driveway. Upon exiting their vehicle, another vehicle pulled up to the residence, blocking the driveway.
A man exited the second vehicle, produced a firearm, and began walking toward the victims. At this point, it is alleged that the suspect attempted to fire the weapon, but that it malfunctioned. The victims re-entered their vehicle, backed out of the driveway, and began to drive in reverse down the road. It is again alleged that the suspect pointed the weapon at the fleeing vehicle.
The suspect then re-entered his vehicle and fled the scene.
The victims contacted police and attended the District 7 office.
Later that evening, the suspect arrived at the District 7 office and was arrested and charged with two counts of attempted murder and two counts of criminal harassment, along with one count each of the following:
- Pointing a firearm
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm
- Possession of a dangerous weapon
- Firearm in a vehicle
- Possession of a loaded firearm
- Possession of a weapon obtained by crime
- Possession of a weapon contrary to an order
The investigation is ongoing, however, police believe the incident is domestic in nature. As a result, no further details will be released to protect the privacy of the family involved.
