Man charged in suspicious incident involving children

The Calgary Police Service has charged one man in relation to a suspicious incident involving children that occurred last week.

On Sunday, Oct. 28, 2018, police received a report that at approximately 3 p.m., four children between the ages of nine and 11, were playing at a playground in the 13000 block of Parkside Drive S.E., when they were approached by a man. The children reported the man asked them for help in locating a piece of jewelry and offered them candy in exchange for their assistance. After the children declined the offer, the man allegedly made inappropriate comments and took inappropriate photos of one of the female children. The children left the playground and returned home to report the incident to their parents, who called police.

Police circulated the area but were unable to locate anyone matching the description provided.

Detectives in the District 6 General Investigations Unit took over the investigation and consulted with members of the Behavioural Science Unit, who identified a possible suspect.

On Sunday, Nov. 4, 2018, investigators located and arrested the possible suspect with the assistance of patrol and covert resources from one of the Service’s District Operations Teams.

John Daniel LARLEE, 48, has been charged with one count of voyeurism. He was released on a promise to appear and will next appear in court on Tuesday Dec. 18, 2018.

The investigation is ongoing.

Police would like to thank the media and the public for their assistance in sharing the initial news release.
