Man charged in Marlborough Mall carjacking

The Calgary Police Service has identified and charged a man in relation to a carjacking that took place last week.

At approximately 4:20 p.m., on Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2016, a man parked his vehicle in front of a restaurant, located in the Marlborough Mall complex at 428 36 St. N.E. The man went inside the restaurant, leaving his wife and children in the vehicle.

An unknown suspect entered the driver’s seat of the vehicle and drove away. The victim pleaded with the suspect to stop and proceeded to call 9-1-1. The suspect stopped the car and exited by the nearby Walmart.

The suspect then entered a stolen Mazda 3S, which drove away northbound. It is believed that he arrived at the mall in the stolen Mazda with another male. The Mazda was taken from the Marlborough community after it had been parked with the keys inside.

On Sunday, Dec. 18, 2016, a man was arrested in the 4100 block of Marlborough Way N.E.

Adrian Piotr GEMBAL, 31, of no fixed address, has been charged with one count each of possession of stolen property over $5,000 and theft of a motor vehicle. He will next appear in court on Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2016.

The CPS would like to thank the media and the public for their assistance in this investigation.
