Man Charged in Connection with March Homicide

The Calgary Police Service has charged a man in connection with a death that has recently been deemed a homicide.

At approximately 6:30 a.m., on Saturday, March 28, 2015, emergency services were called to a home in the 200 block of Pinetree Bay N.E., for reports of a deceased female. The victim’s boyfriend told investigators he found his girlfriend after what appeared to be a suicide.

While the woman’s death was suspicious at the time, recent developments and additional testing done by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, determined the victim was in fact murdered.

Sheri Michelle CARPEN, 31, of Calgary, has been identified as the victim in this case. CARPEN’s cause of death is not being released at this time.

Luke Anthony MACLEOD, 32, has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with CARPEN’s death. MACLEOD and CARPEN were in a relationship at the time of her death, however, there was no reported domestic violence history between them.

MACLEOD, formerly of Calgary, was arrested in Coaldale, AB, on Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2015, with the assistance of the Lethbridge Regional Police Service. He has since been transferred back to Calgary and is scheduled to appear in Provincial Court on Friday, Nov. 27, 2015.
