Homicide unit investigating early morning shooting

The Calgary Police Service is investigating an early morning shooting incident that has left one person dead.

At approximately 3 a.m., this morning, Saturday, Aug. 23, 2014, police were called to 11 Avenue and 1 Street S.W. for reports of gunfire.

Upon arrival, officers found a female suffering from a gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead on scene. The victim is believed to be in her mid-twenties.

At this point in the investigation, the incident does not appear to be targeted and the victim appears to be an innocent bystander.

The Homicide Unit continues to speak to witnesses.
