Hazardous Material Incident at Calgary Hotel

This afternoon, shortly before 2 o'clock, the Calgary Fire Department responded to reports of a chemical spill at the Coast Plaza Hotel; in the 1300 block of 33st NE. Upon arrival, crews were met by staff who directed them to an injured maintenance worker and indicated he had come from the basement area.

Crews investigated the basement while assessing the patient and transferring his care to an on scene Alberta Health Services unit who transported him to a local area hospital. Once crews determined the location of the spill, the Hazardous Materials Response team made entry, identified and neutralized the spill. Presently crews remain on scene ventilating the building with reoccupation anticipated shortly.

There were no other injuries and the condition of the injured worker is unknown at this time.
