Green cart collection begins next week in the southwest

We’re one week away from green cart collection starting in the southwest.

“It’s time for southwest residents to start using their green carts for all their food and yard waste,” says Green Cart Implementation Leader Philippa Wagner.”Green carts should be filled first, with extra yard waste placed in paper yard waste bags and set away from the side of the cart to be picked up on collection day.”

Along with the start of weekly green cart service, southwest residents will also transition to every second week black cart collection.

“Residents will find that by using their green cart for food and yard waste, they can cut their garbage in half since most waste can be composted or recycled,” explains Wagner.

Switch to two separate collection days

Southwest residents are also being reminded that starting the week of July 17 they will have new collection days:

  • Green and blue carts will be picked up every week on the same day.
  • Black carts will be picked up once every two weeks on a different day.

Residents should consult the collection schedule that was delivered with their cart or visit calgary.ca/collection to view their new collection days online.

Free collection day reminder tools are available

Residents can sign up to receive free automated reminders in advance of their collection days at calgary.ca/collection. Reminders are available by downloading an app for iPhone or Android devices, or by signing up for text, email, phone calls or by embedding the schedule into an online calendar.
