Fire Crews Respond to Falling Glass in Downtown Core

Fire Crews Respond to Falling Glass in Downtown Core

At approximately 9:45 this morning, the Calgary Fire Department responded to the 200 block of 6th Avenue SW for reports of falling glass from a high rise tower. Upon arrival, fire crews confirmed evidence of broken glass around the base of the building. Fire crews immediately established a safety perimeter by blocking all vehicle and pedestrian traffic in the area. Firefighters investigated to find a broken window on the 23rd floor. Interior investigations teams confirmed the interior of the glass panels were intact but a partially broken pane remained on the exterior of the building. High winds prevented fire crews or window specialists from gaining access to the exterior of the building, so safety concerns remain. There were no reports of any injuries at the incident. Local traffic, including public transportation in the area is still affected. For more information regarding road closures, please visit the City of Calgary website.
