On Sunday, Feb. 19, 2017, at approximately 8:50 a.m., emergency crews were called to southbound Stoney Trail underneath the overpass of Nose Hill Drive N.W.

A 2004 Ford Explorer being driven by a 39-year-old man was travelling south on Stoney Trail approaching the overpass when it veered left onto the shoulder, rode up onto the cable barrier and made contact with the concrete base of the support pillar for the overpass.

The driver and lone occupant was pronounced deceased at the scene.
