Downtown incident ends in arrests

Two people, a man and a woman, have been arrested following a lengthy stolen vehicle incident.

The incident began at approximately 10:30 a.m., today, Wednesday, July 27, 2016, when the CPS was alerted by the RCMP to what was believed to be a stolen vehicle entering the city limits.

The vehicle travelled throughout the city at high rates of speed, however, no one was injured as a result.

The CPS utilized a number of resources from across the city to assist in ensuring public safety and a peaceful resolution. HAWCS was called in to assist in tracking the movements of the stolen truck as it travelled throughout the city, eventually ending up in the downtown core.

After more than seven hours of diligent monitoring, the vehicle stopped at an apartment complex in the 2000 block of 11 Avenue S.W., where two people were taken into custody without incident at approximately 6 p.m.

A joint investigation with the Calgary Police Service and the RCMP will continue. Charges are pending. More information will be released as it becomes available tomorrow, Thursday, July 28, 2016.
