Crime Stoppers Re-Enactment: Road Rage Incident

In hopes of gaining new information, Crime Stoppers will be re-enacting a violent road rage incident that occurred in December 2016 and is releasing a composite sketch of one of the suspects.

At approximately 5:20 p.m., on Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2016, a woman was driving a black Dodge Caravan southbound on 4 Street N.W., near the intersection of 40 Street N.W. A BMW attempted to pass her, but was unsuccessful due to oncoming traffic.

The BMW then aggressively tailgated the victim to her destination, making contact with the rear of the victim’s vehicle at one point. When the victim stopped her vehicle at the West Mount Pleasant Arena (located at 2408 6 St. N.W.), the BMW boxed her in and two men exited the vehicle.

The men approached the victim’s vehicle and a verbal argument ensued where the victim feared for her safety and the safety of her 9-year-old daughter, who was also in the vehicle. The victim reversed her van, causing minor damage near the wheel well of the BMW. The man who had been driving the BMW then reached into the window of the van and grabbed the victim’s head, hitting it against the window. The victim then grabbed a hockey stick from inside her vehicle to defend herself. During the struggle, the same man got hold of the hockey stick and used it to shatter the middle and side-rear window of the van.

While the altercation continued, the victim’s husband exited the arena and was able to successfully intervene. Both suspects then then fled the scene in the BMW. Prior to leaving the parking lot, witnesses were able to get photos of the offending vehicle, however, the licence plate was obscured. A photo of the vehicle is available on The City of Calgary Newsroom.

The driver of the suspect vehicle is described as a man of Middle Eastern descent, aged 20 to 25, 5’7” to 5’9” tall, with a slim to medium build. He had brown eyes, short black hair and a chinstrap beard with a moustache. He was wearing a white winter jacket with a fur-lined hood, a white/grey sweater and black sweatpants or dark-coloured jeans. A composite sketch of this suspect is available on The City of Calgary Newsroom.

The second suspect is described as a man of Middle Eastern descent, aged 20 to 25, 5’10” to 5’11” tall, with a slim to medium build. He also had short hair and a moustache with a goatee.

It is possible that the two suspects are brothers based on their interaction with the victim and witness.

The suspect vehicle is described as a silver, two-door BMW car with an Alberta licence plate. It would have likely had extensive damage to the front passenger side and possibly the front bumper immediately after the incident.

Anyone with information on this incident, or the identity of the two men, is asked to call the Calgary Police Service at 403-266-1234 or Crime Stoppers anonymously using any of the following methods:
