Civic Census takers required

Interested in doing a job that counts? The City of Calgary is currently recruiting Census Takers.

If you would like to be a part of the Census team that collects valuable information used in many aspects of City planning and service delivery, apply in person at The City of Calgary, Election and Information Services office at 1103 55th Avenue NE till the end of February, Monday to Friday, between 8:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Application forms are available online at Calgary.ca/Census and can be downloaded and brought with you when you come to apply in person.  In addition to the application form a skills assessment is completed in person at the time of application.

In order to apply to be a Census taker you must be:

  • 18 years of age or over.
  • available to conduct Census collection in the first three weeks of May.
  • able to walk in seasonable weather conditions.
  • able to complete online training at home, and available for a short session in-person session in March
  • able to operate a tablet computer.

Applicants can find more information and download the application form by visiting calgary.ca/Census or calling 403-476-4100 (option 3).

Beginning May, Census Takers go door-to-door visiting all homes in their assigned area to collect Census information. Assigned census areas vary in size, but are generally between 400 to 600 dwellings. Census Takers set their own schedule to complete their assigned area and may be required to work in the evenings and on weekends when most people are at home. In general, the data collection takes about three weeks.

This year, the census taking will begin in April with the online census, where citizens will be able to fill out their own information through our website using a specific pin assigned to their dwelling.

Applicants are being placed as they apply.
