Staying safe

Fire safety
Due to extremely dry ground conditions and hot weather, a fire ban is now in effect for Calgary. This fire ban prohibits the use of fire pits, recreational campfires, outdoor fire places and other open flame devices that burn solid fuels like wood or briquettes. Devices that use propane and natural gas can still be used. Visit calgary.ca/firebans for more information.

Back to school safety
The Calgary Police Service has put together some helpful tips for parents and kids to help ensure the school year is both safe and educational for everyone.

Playground zones
As students start returning to school, traffic gets a little heavier on our streets, sidewalks, bikeways and pathways. Remember to take extra caution and reduce speed when driving near playgrounds or schools. Playground zones are in effect 7:30 a.m.-9:30 p.m. every day of the year.
