City Services: Family Day 2020

The City of Calgary is adjusting its hours of operation for Family Day on Monday, Feb. 17, 2020.

Things to do

Enjoy free public skating at the following arenas from 1 – 2:15 p.m.:

50% off admission at the following recreation facilities from 1 – 3 p.m.:

Winter Family Fest at South Glenmore Park Live DJ, fire pits, snow shoe rentals and many other creative activities to promote getting outdoors and staying active this holiday weekend. 

WinterFest on 4th Join Calgary Recreation leaders and the 4th Street BIA for this FREE family-friendly event. Featuring a 9-hole mini-putt course in Central Memorial Park, penguin and snowman carnival games, DJ and dance games, and of course hot chocolate and fire pits to stay toasty warm.

Enjoy ice skating at Olympic Plaza. Open 10 a.m. – 9 p.m. daily through mid-March.

Sunday Fundays at Devonian Gardens Grab the family and visit us on Sunday afternoons at Devonian Gardens for some great, free activities: get inspired by the fish and paint your best coy, learn about nature, flowers, bird species and gardens, complete a puzzle or do some colouring.

GLOW is a FREE family-friendly winter festival where the worlds of art, music, entertainment, and winter fun will unite under the lights on Stephen Avenue.

FISHtival Kick off Alberta’s Family Fishing Weekend with FREE outdoor family fun and reduced admission to our Discovery Centre. The Sam Livingston Fish Hatchery will be OPEN for this event - that means that you can come out and feed the fish! 

Beltline Bonspiel The one day festival brings together local Calgary community teams to compete in a friendly outdoor curling tournament with the backdrop of the historic Lougheed House, delicious local food and beer, and entertainment for all ages.

Family Day Pajama Party Get cozy in your pajamas at Central Library. Join us for a cartoon marathon, special storytime, pop-up performances, crafts, treats, and more. Don’t forget to bring your favourite stuffed animals and slippers!

Getting Around:

Calgary Transit Family Day weekend service
On Family Day, Monday, Feb. 17, we will provide a Sunday level of service. You can check our schedules page to find out when your bus is running.

Calgary Parking Authority
On Monday, Feb. 17, on-street parking is free and holiday rates will be charged in select CPA parkades and surface lots. Visit calgaryparking.com for more information. Around the house

City landfills
East Calgary, Shepard and Spyhill landfills are open on Family Day (Monday, Feb. 17). Updated landfill hours and locations are available on Calgary.ca/landfill.
