City Services: Easter Weekend 2016

We're adjusting our hours of operation for the Easter Weekend (Friday, March 25 through Sunday, March 27, 2016). Here's a complete list of what you need to know:

Getting Around:

Calgary Transit
Calgary Transit will provide a Sunday level of service on Good Friday (March 25) and regular weekend service both Saturday and Sunday. Please check the schedules page to find out when your bus is running.

Parking
On-street parking is free and Holiday rates will in effect at select Calgary Parking Authority surface lots and parkades on both Good Friday (March 25) and Easter Sunday (March 27).

Things to do:
The following aquatics and fitness centres are offering free swimming from 1 -2:30 p.m. and 3 - 4:30 p.m. (half hour break will be waived if capacity permits) on Sunday, March 27:

All other aquatics and fitness centres will be closed on Sunday, Mar 27.

Southland Leisure Centre
Open on Friday, March 25, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Regular admission applies. Closed Sunday, March 27.
Village Square Leisure Centre
Open on Friday, March 25, and Sunday, March 27 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Regular admission applies.

Arenas
Village Square Leisure Centre Arena will be open on Friday, March 25 and Sunday, March 27 from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. Public skating will be available from 12:30 – 2 p.m. on both days. Regular admission applies. All other arenas will be closed on both Friday, March 25, and Sunday, March 27, except for any advanced bookings.

Golf course openings
The front 9 holes and driving ranges will open at McCall Lake and Shaganappi Point Golf Courses on Saturday, March 26.

Around the house:

Spring Cleaning
There are no changes to garbage and recycling pickup on Good Friday (March 25, 2016). Please continue to put out your blue and black carts as usual.

All three City of Calgary operated landfills are open from 7:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. on Good Friday (March 25) and closed on Easter Sunday (March 27).

Our annual Spring Yard Waste program begins April 1.

Our annual Spring Street Cleaning program begins April 3.

Looking for some fun, family-friendly activities to enjoy over the long weekend? Show off your ‘chicken dance’ moves during the Spring Sparktacular, cuddle with some furry bunnies and fill your baskets at Butterfield Acres, or hop on down to the Calgary Zoo for cookie decorating and other Easter themed crafts for kids of all ages. JUNO Week in YYC
Monday, March 28 kicks off JUNO Week in Calgary. Face-off with some NHL Greats at the JUNO Cup, have the chance to meet your favourite Canadian music artist during JUNO Fan Fare and of course don’t forget to tune in to the main event, Sunday, April 3 when the JUNOs are awarded live from the ‘Dome. Facility Closures

  • All pools will be closed on Friday, March 25, except the Leisure Centres as noted above.
  • North Mount Pleasant and Wildflower Arts Centres will be closed Friday, March 25, through Monday, March 28, inclusive.
  • The Calgary Soccer Centre will be closed be closed on Friday, March 25, and Sunday, March 27, except for any advanced bookings.
  • The Nature Centre at Inglewood Bird Sanctuary will be closed on Friday, March 25, Sunday, March 27 and Monday, March 28.
  • The Animal Services Centre will be closed on Friday, March 25 and Sunday, March 27.
  • All City of Calgary Administrative buildings including City Hall.
