Charges laid in weekend homicide

One man has been charged following a fatal shooting that occurred on the weekend.

Just before 10 p.m., on Saturday, March 27, 2021, we were called to the 5200 block of Memorial Drive S.E., for reports of shots fired. Upon arrival, a man in his 30s was found on the street in medical distress. Despite the efforts of first responders, he died at the scene.

The victim was identified as Jesse Shaye Troy GEORGE, 30, of Calgary.

On Monday, March 29, 2021, a suspect turned himself in to Calgary Police Service Headquarters and was taken into custody without incident. John TABLER, 41, of Calgary, has since been charged with one count of second-degree murder. TABLER will next appear in court on Tuesday, April 13, 2021.

Investigators believe that the victim and accused were known to each other and the shooting was the result of personal dispute.

“This remains an active investigation,” says Acting Staff Sergeant Lee Treit of the Calgary Police Service Homicide Unit. “We believe that there were a number of individuals present at the time of the shooting and we are still in the process of determining each person’s involvement.”

Despite laying charges, investigators are still looking to speak to anyone who has information about this incident and has not yet contacted police, including drivers with dash cam footage from the scene. Anyone who was travelling in the area of Memorial Drive and 52 Street S.E., on Saturday, March 27, 2021, between 9:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m., and has dash cam footage is asked to contact investigators.
