Charges laid in October 18, 2016 fatal collision

The Calgary Police Service has charged one man in relation to a fatal collision involving speed and alcohol.

At approximately 4:45 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2016, a 2002 Jeep Liberty was traveling west on McKnight Boulevard N.E. between 68 Street and 52 Street, when it lost control. The Jeep began to rotate counter clockwise in the far right lane. The vehicle swerved and traveled a distance of approximately 100 metres, before entering the centre median. Once in the median the vehicle continued to travel a short distance before rolling across the eastbound lanes.

All three occupants were ejected from the vehicle. Once transported to hospital, the front passenger, a 17-year-old female, succumbed to her injuries.

The male driver and 16-year-old female passenger sustained serious injuries as a result of the collision.

Michael Shaun BOMFORD, 52, of Calgary is charged with:

  • Impaired Driving Causing Death
  • Impaired Driving Causing Bodily Harm
  • Over 80 Causing Death
  • Over 80 Causing Bodily Harm
  • Dangerous Driving Causing Death
  • Dangerous Driving Causing Bodily Harm

BOMFORD will appear in court on Thursday, Oct. 5, 2017.
