Charges in relation to reckless discharge of a firearm

One man has been charged and another arrested on outstanding warrants following the reckless discharge of a firearm in a fourplex.

At approximately 2:20 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2015, police were called by tenants of a residence in the 2700 block of 10 Avenue S.E. for reports of a gunshot and subsequent bullet hole. Upon arrival, officers confirmed a bullet hole in the bedroom wall adjoining the unit beside them, as well as a second hole in the wall separating the two bedrooms within the unit.

The victims were removed from the residence and officers set up containment on the fourplex, calling out anyone who was in the residing units. Two men exited and were taken into custody. One man was found to have a magazine containing 9 mm bullets in his pocket.

A search warrant was executed on the residence at approximately 6:30 p.m. As a result, a 9 mm Just Right long barrel carbine and a spent shell casing were located.

Reginald DENIS, 31, of Calgary, has been charged with reckless discharge of a firearm, possession of a weapon obtained by crime, possession of a firearm without a license, possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace and two counts of possession of a weapon contrary to a prohibition order. DENIS was also arrested on an unrelated outstanding warrant. He will next appear in court on Thursday, Jan. 21, 2016.

Hol Dominick GARANG, 23, of Calgary, was arrested on eight outstanding warrants that include robbery, assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon dangerous to the public. He will next appear in court on Thursday, Jan. 21, 2016.
