Carjacking involving senior victims

At approximately 2:30 p.m., today, Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018, a man approached a 2010 Silver Ford Edge parked in the 3400 block of 26 Avenue N.E. at the same time that the owners of the vehicle, an elderly man and woman, were also walking towards it.

The elderly man had the car keys hanging from a key ring on his pants. The suspect approached the man and attempted to rip the keys away, resulting in a physical altercation. The suspect entered the vehicle. He struck the elderly female and a nearby building before fleeing the scene.

Both the elderly man and woman sustained minor injuries.

A short while later, witnesses reported the vehicle driving recklessly near Sarcee Trail and Richmond Road S.W. HAWCS located the vehicle to Highway 8 and Stone Pine Way S.W. where the male exited the vehicle and was arrested without incident.

Charges are pending.
