Ring Road Project – Government of Alberta

  • Eastbound Highway 22X will be reduced to a single lane east of Macleod Trail S beginning at 7 a.m. on Saturday, October 1. This closure remains in place until 3 p.m. on Sunday, October 2.
  • Various single lane closures on northbound Macleod Trail at Highway 22 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, October 1 and Sunday, October 2.

Northeast

NEW: Various single lane closures on McKnight Boulevard N.E. at Barlow Trail N.E. from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, September 30. These closures accommodate construction.

NEW: Southbound Centre Street N will be closed and there will be a two-way traffic setup in the northbound lanes at various locations from 7 Avenue N.E. to Beddington Boulevard N.E. from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday, October 1 and Sunday, October 2. At various times there will be full closures within intersections of this area as paving work takes place, controlled by Calgary Police Service. This closure accommodates paving.

NEW: Various single lane closures on McKnight Boulevard N.E. between 12 Street and 19 Street N.E. from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday, October 1 and Sunday, October 2 for road work.

NEW: The left lane of northbound 19 Street N.E. is closed at McKnight Boulevard N.E. from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 1 for construction.

NEW: Single left lane closures in both directions of 12 Street N.E. south of McKnight Boulevard N.E. from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, October 1. This closure accommodates construction.

NEW: The right lane of eastbound airport tunnel is closed and the speed limit is reduced to 50 km/hr. from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday, October 3 for maintenance work.

NEW: The left lane of northbound 36 Street N.E. is closed at 12 Avenue N.E. and the speed limit is reduced to 50 km/hr. daily from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. beginning on Monday, October 3. This closure continues daily during these hours until 3 p.m. on Wednesday, October 12 and accommodates construction.

NEW: The left lane of southbound 36 Street N.E. is closed south of 16 Avenue N.E. and the speed limit is reduced to 50 km/hr. daily from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. beginning on Monday, October 3. This closure continues daily during these hours until 3 p.m. on Wednesday, October 12 and accommodates construction.

NEW: Various single lane closures on northbound 19 Street N.E. between 3 Avenue N.E. and Matador Crescent N.E. daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. beginning on Monday, October 3. These closure continue daily during these hours until 3 p.m. on Friday, October 14 and accommodates sidewalk work.

Update: 36 Street N.E. has opened to a single lane between 64 Avenue N.E. and Airport Trail N.E.

The left lane of southbound 36 Street N.E. is closed at 12 Avenue N.E. daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. beginning on Thursday, September 29. This closure continues daily during these hours, and also from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, October 1 and accommodates construction.

The left lane of southbound 36 Street N.E. at 32 Avenue N.E. is closed and the speed limit is reduced to 50 km/hr. in the area daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. beginning on Monday, September 26. This closure continues to 3 p.m. on Monday, October 3 and accommodates construction.

The left lane of northbound 36 Street N.E. is closed at 12 Avenue N.E. daily from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. beginning on Wednesday, September 28. This closure continues daily during these hours and also from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, October 1. This closure accommodates construction.

The right lane of northbound 36 Street N.E. is closed at 25 Avenue N.E. beginning at 7 a.m. on Sunday, September 25. This closure continues until 6 p.m. on Sunday, October 30 and accommodates construction.

The right lane of eastbound 64 Avenue N.E. is closed at 9 Street N.E. beginning at 7 a.m. on Monday, September 26. During this closure, there will be no access to the mall at 9 Street via 64 Avenue N.E. due to construction. This closure remains in place until 5 p.m. on Friday, September 30.

Reduced lanes in both directions of Country Hills Boulevard N.E. between Deerfoot Trail and Freeport Drive N.E. daily from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. beginning on Monday, September 19. This closure continues daily during these hours on weekdays, and from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekends through Saturday, October 8. This closure accommodate curb rehabilitation work.

Various lane closures in all directions at Memorial Drive N.E. and Edmonton Trail N.E. from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily beginning on Monday, September 12. Motorists are advised to expect delays in the area. This closure accommodates the Memorial Drive at Edmonton Trail improvement project.

Two right lanes of northbound Metis Trail N.E. are closed north of McKnight Boulevard N.E. and the speed is reduced to 50 km/hr. beginning at 6 a.m. on Thursday, September 1. This closure remains in place until 6 p.m. on Saturday, October 1 and accommodates bridge work.

Beginning at 8 a.m. on Sunday, August 28 there will be new traffic patterns on McKnight Boulevard N.E. between 12 Street N.E. and 19 Street N.E. until October 2016. This work is part of the McKnight Boulevard N.E. Widening Project.

Aviation Road N.E. is closed between Aviation Boulevard and 15 Street N.E. until Sunday, September 25. Local business access will be maintained. This closure is part of the McKnight Boulevard N.E. Widening Project.

Northwest

NEW: Southbound 10 Street N.W. is reduced to a single lane at 3 Avenue N.W. from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, September 30. This closure accommodates sign installation.

NEW: The left lane of southbound Sarcee Trail N.W. is closed at Stoney Trail N.W. from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, September 30. This closure accommodates construction.

NEW: Various single lane closures on 14 Street N.W. at 5 Avenue N.W. from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, September 30. These closures accommodate paving.

NEW: The left lane of southbound Sarcee Trail N.W. is closed south of 16 Avenue S.W. from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, September 30 for construction.

NEW: Westbound 16 Avenue N.W. is reduced to a single lane at 14 Street N.W. beginning at 9 p.m. on Friday, September 30. This closure continues until 5 a.m. on Saturday, October 1 and accommodates construction.

NEW: McKnight Boulevard N.W. is reduced to a single lane in each direction west of Centre Street N beginning at 8 a.m. on Saturday, October 1. This closure remains in place until 6 p.m. on Sunday, October 2 and accommodates water services utility work.

NEW: The right lane of eastbound 16 Avenue S.W. is closed at Sarcee Trail N.W. and the speed limit is reduced to 50 km/hr. from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, October 1. This closure accommodates bridge work.

The right lane of southbound Sarcee Trail N.W. is closed between 16 Avenue and 34 Avenue N.W. daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. beginning on Thursday, September 29. This closure continues until 5 p.m. on Monday, October 3 and accommodates utility work.

The right lane of eastbound Memorial Drive N.W. is closed at 9 Street N.W. daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. beginning on Tuesday, September 27. This closure repeats daily during these hours, and also on Saturday, October 1 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. This closure accommodates construction.

144 Avenue N.W. is closed between Centre Street North and 14 Street N.W. for roadway upgrades through November 2016.

83 Street N.W. is closed between 33 Avenue N.W. and Bowfort Road N.W. until further notice. There will be no access to Bowness Road N.W. from 16 Avenue N.W.; use an alternate route.

Southeast

NEW: 12 Avenue S.W. is reduced to a single right lane between 2 Street and 4 Street S.W. beginning at 7 p.m. on Friday, September 30. During this closure, the cycle track will be closed, and cycle track traffic will be detoured to 11 Avenue S.W. This closure remains in place until 5 a.m. on Monday, October 3 and accommodates construction.

NEW: The left lane of eastbound Memorial Drive S.E. is closed at Barlow Trail S.E. and the speed limit is reduced to 50 km/hr. from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, October 1 for utility work.

NEW: The left lane of eastbound Memorial Drive S.E. is closed at 28 Street S.E. and the speed limit is reduced to 50 km/hr. from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday, October 2 for utility work.

17 Avenue S.E. is reduced to a single lane in each direction between Centre Street S and 1 Street S.E. beginning at 7 a.m. on Thursday, September 29. This closure remains in place until 7 p.m. on Saturday, October 29 and accommodates the 17 Avenue SW Construction project.

The right lane will be closed and the speed limit reduced to 50 km/h on and westbound Southland Drive at Acadia Drive S.E. from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily on Thursday September 29 and Friday, September 30 to allow for sound wall work.

Shawville Boulevard S.E. is closed between Shawnessy Boulevard S.E. and 162 Avenue S.E. beginning at 7 p.m. on Friday, September 30. Access to Shawnessy LRT station, local shopping and restaurants will be maintained. The road closure accommodates new underground service install and remains in place until 5 a.m. on Monday, October 3. Motorists are advised to use Macleod Trail S.E. as an alternate route.

38 Avenue S.E. will be closed in single block sections between 16A Street S.E. and Ogden Road S.E. beginning at 7 a.m. on Saturday, September 17. This closure will continue in this area until 6 p.m. on Saturday, October 29 and accommodates construction.

15 Street S.E. is closed between 42 Street and 46 Street S.E. During this closure, business access will be maintained. This closure continues through 2016 and accommodates major water services work.

Zoo Road will be closed until December 2017 to accommodate the construction of the Zoo Flood mitigation project. The 12 Street S.E. bridge will remain open to local only traffic.

Blackfoot Trail / Southland Drive S.E. Intersection Improvements Project

  • NEW: Southland Drive S.E. will be reduced to a single lane in each direction at Blackfoot Trail S.E. from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, September 30.
  • NEW: Southland Drive S.E. will be reduced to a single lane in each direction at Blackfoot Trail S.E. from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, October 1.
  • The speed limit will be reduced to 50 km/h at the intersection of Blackfoot Trail and Southland Drive during periods of construction activity. This work is related to the Southland Dr and Blackfoot Trail intersection improvements for 2016.

Blackfoot Trail / 58 Avenue S.E. Intersection Improvements Project

  • The left turns from east and west 58 Avenue S.E. onto Blackfoot Trail, will be revised starting on Wednesday, August 3. The optional dual left turn will be removed and traffic will only be able to make single left turns. This is required as an interim measure to accommodate the next phase of construction and is anticipated to be in place for several weeks.

Macleod Trail / 162 Avenue Interchange project

  • Access to southbound Macleod Trail from the shopping Centre located north of 162 Avenue S.E. will close to accommodate the next phase of construction. Traffic will be required to exit the shopping Centre at the west entrance on Shawville Boulevard and connect to either 162 Avenue S.E. or Shawnessy Boulevard to access Macleod Trail.

Glenmore Trail / Ogden Interchange

  • Various single lane closures in all directions at Glenmore Trail and 52 Street S.E. from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily beginning on Monday, September 19.
  • The Shepard Road access south of Glenmore is closed. There will be a new access created at 24 Street S.E. south of Glenmore Trail, west of the existing Shepard Road alignment. Traffic requiring to access Shepard Road south of Glenmore Trial will be detoured via the new 24 Street S.E. exit and then along 86 Avenue S.E. to reconnect with Shepard Road. There will be limited business access north of 86 Avenue S.E. on Shepard Road after detour in place. In addition, the eastbound lanes on Glenmore Trail will be re-aligned into the next stage of construction. The eastbound and westbound lanes will be separated with two new intersections created. Ogden Road will have some alignment shifts north of Glenmore Trail to accommodate these traffic changes.

Southwest

NEW: 10 Street S.W. is reduced to a single lane in each direction between 6 Avenue S.W. and 7 Avenue S.W. daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. beginning on Friday, September 30. This closure continues daily during these hours on weekdays and from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturdays. This closure continues until 7 p.m. on October 22 and accommodates construction.

NEW: 10 Avenue S.W. is closed between 6 Street and 7 Street S.W. beginning at 7 p.m. on Friday, September 30. This closure remains in place until 5 a.m. on Monday, October 3 and accommodates construction.

NEW: Various single lane closures at Macleod Trail and 61 Avenue S.W. from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, October 1 and Sunday, October 2. At certain times Calgary Police Service will be onsite directing traffic. Motorists are advised to use alternate routes. This closure accommodates the 61 Avenue S.W. Greenway Corridor project.

NEW: 4 Street S.W. is reduced to two left lanes between 8 Avenue and 10 Avenue S.W. daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. beginning on Monday, October 3. This closure continues until 3 p.m. on Friday, October 28 and accommodates work related to the 4 Street SW underpass enhancement project.

NEW: 15 Avenue S.W. is closed between 11 Street and 12 Street S.W. from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Monday, October 3. During this closure, 11 Street S.W. will also be reduced to a single lane in each direction at 15 Avenue S.W. This closure accommodates construction.

NEW: 12 Street S.W. is closed between 12 Avenue and 13 Avenue S.W. from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Monday, October 3. This closure accommodates maintenance work.

Update: 38 Avenue S.W. will be closed between 13 Street S.W. and 14 Street S.W. beginning at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, September 28. This closure accommodates City of Calgary’s water utility replacement program, motorists in the area will be detoured. This closure remains in place until 7 p.m. on Friday, October 14.

Update: 1A Street S.W. is closed at 61 Avenue S.W. beginning at 6 a.m. on Saturday, September 24. Motorists are advised to use alternate routes in the area and expect delays. This closure continues until 8 p.m. on Friday, October 7 and accommodates the 61 Avenue S.W. Greenway Corridor project.

37 Street S.W. is reduced to a single lane in each direction between Bow Trail S.W. and 4 Avenue S.W. beginning at 8 a.m. on Thursday, September 22. During this closure 4 Avenue S.W. will also be closed between 37 Street and 38 Street S.W. This closure remains in place until 7 p.m. on Friday, September 30 and accommodates construction.

13 Avenue S.W. is closed between 4 Street and 5 Street S.W. beginning at 8 a.m. on Monday, September 26. This closure remains in place until 4 p.m. on Friday, October 7 and accommodates construction.

The right lane and adjacent sidewalk of northbound 4 Street S.W. is closed beginning at 7 a.m. on Monday, September 26. This closure continues until September 2017 and accommodates the 4 Street S.W. underpass enhancement project.

8 Street S.W. is closed between 8 Avenue and 10 Avenue S.W. nightly from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. beginning on Monday, September 26. These closures continue nightly during these hours until 5 a.m. on Saturday, October 1 and accommodate work on the pedestrian underpass.

Northbound 8 Street S.W. is closed between 8 Avenue and 10 Avenue S.W. nightly from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. beginning on Monday, September 19. This closure continues nightly during these hours until 5 a.m. on Saturday, September 24 and accommodates work on a pedestrian underpass.

There will be a traffic pattern change at 61 Avenue S.W. between Macleod Trail and Centre Street S. This closure accommodates work on the 61 Avenue S.W. Greenway Corridor project.

The left lane of 9 Avenue S.W. is closed at 8 Street S.W. from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily beginning on Monday, August 29. This closure continues daily during these hours until 3 p.m. on Friday, September 30 and accommodates maintenance work.

The right lane of northbound 8 Street S.W. is closed between 8 Avenue S.W. and 10 Avenue S.W. beginning at 9 a.m. on Monday, July 25. This closure continues until 7 p.m. on Friday, September 30 and accommodates work on the pedestrian underpass.

17 Avenue S. reconstruction project

  • 17 Avenue S.W. is reduced to a single lane in each direction between 1 Street and 2 Street S.W. beginning at 7 a.m. on Monday, September 26. This closure remains in place until 7 p.m. on Sunday, October 9.
  • Update: 1 Street S.W. is closed between 15 Avenue S.W. and 17 Avenue S.W. beginning at 7 a.m. on Wednesday, September 21. This closure remains in place until 7 p.m. on Tuesday, October 4.
  • Update: 17 Avenue S.W. is reduced to a single lane in each direction between 2 Street and 4 Street S.W. beginning at 9 a.m. on Monday, August 22. This closure remains in place until 7 p.m. on Friday, October 7.
  • Update: 17 Avenue S.W. is reduced to a single lane in each direction between Centre Street S and 1 Street S.W. beginning at 12 p.m. on Friday, September 16. This closure continues until 7 p.m. on Saturday, October 29 and accommodates construction.

The right lane of southbound 8 Street S.W. between 8 Avenue and 10 Avenue S.W. is closed until October 2016. The west sidewalk on 8 Street S.W. in this stretch will be closed. This closure accommodates work on the 8 Street S.W. underpass project.

Crowchild/Flanders Ave Interchange

  • NEW: Flanders Avenue access from Richard Road S.W. exit at southbound Crowchild Trail will be closed beginning at 12 p.m. on Friday, September 30 until 8 a.m. on Monday, October 3. Motorists will be detoured to Richard Road S.W.
  • The northbound exit ramps from Crowchild Trail S.W. to Flanders Avenue S.W. are currently closed until late 2016. Motorists will be unable to access Flanders Avenue S.W. via northbound Crowchild Trail S.W. Motorists are advised to use 33 Avenue S.W. or 50 Avenue S.W. via Crowchild Trail as alternate routes.
  • Caen Avenue (from the Currie Business Park entrance to Quesnay Wood Drive) is closed to allow for the utility work necessary for the Interchange construction. This stretch of Caen Avenue will be closed until late 2016. A temporary off-ramp provides access into the Currie Business Park, from Crowchild Trail South to Battleford Avenue.
  • Construction work has begun on Richard Road and eastbound Flanders Avenue. Traffic on Richard Road will be reduced to one lane in each direction (north and sound bound).

Special Events

Culture Days – Friday, September 30 – 6 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.

  • 8 Avenue S.E. is closed between Macleod Trail and 1 Street S.E.

Harvest Half Marathon – Saturday, October 1 – 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

  • Midlake Rise S.E. is closed; Marathon walkers begin here at 7 a.m., runners at 7:45 a.m.
  • The right lane of northbound Sun Valley Boulevard S.E. is closed at Sikome Road S.E.
  • The right lane of northbound Sun Mills Drive S.E. is closed at Sun Valley Boulevard S.E.
  • The left lane of westbound Midlake Boulevard S.E. is closed east of Midridge Boulevard S.E.
  • Motorists are advised to watch for police onsite and are advised to use alternate routes.

CIBC Run for the Cure – Sunday, October 2 – 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

  • Willow Park Drive S.E. is closed from Bonaventure Drive S.E. to Acadia Drive S.E.
  • Acadia Drive S.E. is closed from Willow Park Drive S.E. to Willingdon Boulevard S.E.
  • Willingdon Boulevard S.E. is closed between Acadia Drive and Fairmount Drive S.E.
  • Bonaventure Drive S.E. is closed north of Trico Centre to Willow Park Drive S.E.
  • Motorists are advised to watch for police onsite and are advised to use alternate routes.

Bridges

MacDonald Bridge

​Traffic on 7 Street S.E. may be reduced to one lane from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m from Monday, August 22 until Sunday, October 30, 2016. Pedestrian traffic on 7 Street S.E. will be detoured to the east side of Elbow River for the duration of the project.

Prince’s Island Park Bridge

The Prince’s Island Park pedestrian bridge to Memorial Drive will be partially closed until October 21, 2016 and accommodates replacement of a non-slip coating.

Peace Bridge

The Peace Bridge will be closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. from Monday, July 18 through September 2016 for bridge repair. This closure will not occur every night as it is weather dependant. This closure is related to work on Peace Bridge panel replacement.
