McKnight Boulevard Bridge at Deerfoot Trail Rehabilitation

Alberta Transportation is rehabilitating the McKnight Boulevard Bridge over Deerfoot Trail in early August. Starting Sunday, August 21, lane restrictions will be reversed on Deerfoot Trail at McKnight Boulevard. Speed restrictions will remain in place. These restrictions will continue through September 2016 and accommodate bridge rehabilitation work.

Northeast

NEW: The right lane of westbound Memorial Drive N.E. is closed at Edmonton Trail N.E. from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, September 2. During this closure, the two right lanes of Edmonton Trail are also closed at Memorial Drive N.E. This closure accommodates utility work.

NEW: The right lane of eastbound 16 Avenue N.E. and adjacent sidewalk are closed at 1 Street N.E. from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, September 2. This closure accommodates construction.

NEW: Various single lane closures at Airport Trail N.E. and 36 Street N.E. daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. beginning on Friday, September 1. This closure continues weekdays during these hours, and also on Saturday, September 3 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. This closure accommodates curb rehab.

NEW: The two right lanes of westbound Airport Trail N.E. are closed at Barlow Trail N.E. and there will be police controlling the intersection of Airport Trail N.E. and Barlow Trail N.E. beginning at 7 p.m. on Friday, September 2. The speed limit will be reduced to 50 km/hr. through the closure. This closure continues until 2 a.m. on Saturday, September 3 and accommodates construction.

NEW: Edmonton Trail N.E. will be reduced to a single lane in each direction between 4 Avenue N.E. and 16 Avenue N.E. from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday, September 3, Sunday, September 4 and Monday, September 5. Motorists are advised to expect delays in the area. This closure accommodates paving.

NEW: 80 Avenue N.E. is reduced to a single lane in each direction at Metis Trail N.E. beginning at 6 a.m. on Tuesday, September 6. During the closure, there will also be various single lane closures in the area. This closure remains in place until 6 p.m. on Friday, September 9 and accommodates construction.

Update: Two right lanes of northbound Metis Trail N.E. are closed north of McKnight Boulevard N.E. and the speed is reduced to 50 km/hr. beginning at 6 a.m. on Thursday, September 1. This closure remains in place until 6 p.m. on Saturday, September 24 and accommodates bridge work.

The right lane of westbound Memorial Drive N.E. is closed at 9 Street N.E. and the speed limit is reduced to 60 km/hr. daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. beginning on Wednesday, August 31. This closure continues daily during these hours on weekdays until 3 p.m. on Friday, September 16 and accommodates construction.

Skyview Ranch Drive N.E. is closed from Skyview Ranch Street N.E. to Skyview Ranch Boulevard N.E. beginning at 7 a.m. on Monday, August 29. This closure remains in place until 6 p.m. on Friday, September 2 and accommodates utility work.

Beginning at 8 a.m. on Sunday, August 28 there will be new traffic patterns on McKnight Boulevard N.E. between 12 Street N.E. and 19 Street N.E. until October 2016. This work is part of the McKnight Boulevard N.E. Widening Project.

Various single lane closures at Memorial Drive N.E. and Edmonton Trail N.E. from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily beginning on Thursday, August 25. This closure continues daily during these hours until 3 p.m. on Friday, September 2 and accommodates work related to the Memorial Drive at Edmonton Trail improvements project.

The right lane of northbound Centre Street is closed at 20 Avenue N.E. daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. beginning on Monday, August 22. This closure continues daily during these hours until 3 p.m. on Friday, September 9 and accommodates curb work.

80 Avenue N.E. is reduced to a single lane in each direction west of Metis Trail N.E. beginning at 6 a.m. on Monday, August 15. This closure remains in place until 6 p.m. on Thursday, September 15 and accommodates road construction.

Country Hills Boulevard N.E. will be reduced to a single lane in each direction between Freeport Road N.E. and Barlow Trail N.E. beginning at 6 a.m. on Sunday, July 24. This closure accommodates the reconstruction of Barlow Trail and Country Hills Boulevard N.E. and is expected to last for approximately four weeks.

Aviation Road N.E. is closed between Aviation Boulevard and 15 Street N.E. until Sunday, September 25. Local business access will be maintained. This closure is part of the McKnight Boulevard N.E. Widening Project.

36 Street N.E. will be closed between 64 Avenue N.E. and Airport Trail N.E. until mid-October 2016. During this closure, traffic travelling northbound on 36 Street N.E. will be restricted to local only access at 64 Avenue N.E. Traffic travelling westbound on 80 Avenue N.E. will be diverted to southbound 40 Street N.E. There will be no access to Airport Trail from 80 Avenue N.E. during this closure. Detours using Metis Trail N.E. around construction zone are recommended.

Northwest

NEW: 14 Avenue N.W. is closed between 14 Street N.W. and 19 Street N.W. beginning at 10 p.m. on Friday, September 2. This closure continues until 11:59 p.m. on Monday, September 5 and accommodates LRT maintenance work.

NEW: Silver Ridge Drive N.W. will be closed to through traffic between Silvercrest Drive N.W. and Silvercrest Crescent N.W. beginning at 7 a.m. on Saturday, September 3. This closure remains in place until 7 p.m. on Monday, September 5 and accommodates paving work.

Update: 14 Street N.W. is moving to the third phase of paving. 14 Street N.W. is reduced to a single lane in each direction from 2 Avenue to Memorial Drive N.W. During this closure there will be turn restrictions on 14 Street N.W. This closure is the third of four stages of paving work on 14 Street N.W. which is expected to through September 2016

48 Avenue N.W. is reduced to a single lane in each direction at 23 Avenue N.W. and there will be no access to westbound 23 Avenue N.W. via 48 Avenue N.W. during the closure beginning at 9:45 a.m. on Thursday, September 1. This closure remains in place until 8 p.m. on Sunday, September 4. Local access will be maintained in the area, this closure accommodates water services utility work.

Eastbound 2 Avenue N.W. is closed between 9A Street and 10 Street N.W. from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday, September 1 and Friday, September 2 for water services utility work.

Eastbound Kensington Road N.W. is reduced to a single lane between 10 Street and 10A Street N.W. beginning at 7 a.m. on Monday, August 29. This closure remains in place until 5 p.m. on Friday, September 16 and accommodates work related to the Kensington improvement project.

Sage Hills Drive N.W. is closed at 37 Street N.W. beginning at 7 a.m. on Monday, August 29. Motorists will be detoured to 144 Avenue N.W. via 37 Street N.W. or Symons Valley Road N.W. This closure remains in place until 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 3 and accommodates construction.

Northmount Drive N.W. has parking restrictions in place and traffic shifting between Cambrian Drive N.W. and McKnight Boulevard N.W. Two-way traffic will be maintained during these operations. This closure is expected to last through mid-September 2016 and accommodates paving.

144 Avenue N.W. is closed between Centre Street North and 14 Street N.W. for roadway upgrades through November 2016.

83 Street N.W. is closed between 33 Avenue N.W. and Bowfort Road N.W. until further notice. There will be no access to Bowness Road N.W. from 16 Avenue N.W.; use an alternate route.

Southeast

NEW: 3 Street S.E. is reduced to a single lane in each direction between 7 Avenue and 9 Avenue S.E. beginning at 6 p.m. on Thursday, September 1. This closure remains in place until 3:30 p.m. on Friday, September 2 and accommodates water services utility work.

NEW: 12 Avenue S.E. is reduced to a single lane in each direction between 5 Street and 6 Street S.E. beginning at 8 a.m. on Friday, September 2. This closure remains in place until 6 p.m. on Saturday, September 3 and accommodates water services utility work.

NEW: The right lane of northbound Macleod Trail S.E. is closed between 7 Avenue and 8 Avenue S.E. from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Friday, September 2. This closure accommodates construction.

NEW: There will be a two-way setup on 4 Avenue S.E. between 1 Street S.W. and 1 Street S.E. beginning at 7 p.m. on Friday, September 2. This setup accommodates a detour around construction on Centre Street S, which will be closed between 4 Avenue S.E. and 6 Avenue S.E. during this time. This closure remains in place until 5 a.m. on Tuesday, September 6 and accommodates deep utility work. Motorists are advised to expect delays and use alternate routes when possible.

NEW: The two right lanes of Macleod Trail S.E. are closed between 15 Avenue and 18 Avenue S.E. beginning at 7 a.m. on Saturday, September 3. This closure remains in palce until 5 p.m. on Sunday, September 4 and accommodates construction.

NEW: The right lane of westbound Ogden Road S.E. is closed at 16A Street S.E. beginning at 7 a.m. on Tuesday, September 6. During this closure, the speed limit will be reduced to 50 km/hr. through the construction zone. This closure continues until 12 p.m. on Saturday, September 20 and accommodates construction.

Various lane closures in all directions at 11 Avenue S.E. and Olympic Way S.E. daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. beginning on Wednesday, August 31. These closures continue daily during these hours and also from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, September 3. These closures accommodate concrete work.

Ogden Road S.E. is reduced to a single lane in each direction between 16A Street S.E. and 17 Street S.E. beginning at 5 a.m. on Monday, August 29. This closure remains in place until 12 p.m. on Saturday, September 3 and accommodates construction.

Northbound Macleod Trail will have various lane closures from 34 Avenue S.E. to 58 Avenue S.E. and the speed limit will be reduced to 50 km/hr. nightly from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. beginning on Monday, August 15. These closures continue nightly until September and accommodate paving.

17 Avenue S.E. is reduced to a single lane in each direction from 1 Street S.E. to Macleod Trail beginning at 6 a.m. on Friday, August 5. This closure continues until 7 p.m. on Sunday, September 11. This closure accommodates the 17 Avenue S reconstruction project.

Starting at 7 a.m. Tuesday, August 2 and continuing until the end of August, Dartmouth Road will be closed at 34 Avenue S.E. to allow for gas main upgrades. Traffic will be directed to use either Spiller Road or Macleod Trail to bypass the closure.

The left parking lane of 6 Avenue S.E. will be closed between Centre Street and 1 Street S.E. beginning at 9 a.m. on Monday, July 18. This closure continues until 5 a.m. on Tuesday, September 6 and accommodates construction.

15 Street S.E. is closed between 42 Street and 46 Street S.E. During this closure, business access will be maintained. This closure continues through 2016 and accommodates major water services work.

Zoo Road will be closed until December 2017 to accommodate the construction of the Zoo Flood mitigation project. The 12 Street S.E. bridge will remain open to local only traffic.

Blackfoot Trail / Southland Drive S.E. Intersection Improvements Project

  • The speed limit will be reduced to 50 km/h at the intersection of Blackfoot Trail and Southland Drive during periods of construction activity. This work is related to the Southland Dr and Blackfoot Trail intersection improvements for 2016.

Blackfoot Trail / 58 Avenue S.E. Intersection Improvements Project

  • The left turns from east and west 58 Avenue S.E. onto Blackfoot Trail, will be revised starting on Wednesday, August 3. The optional dual left turn will be removed and traffic will only be able to make single left turns. This is required as an interim measure to accommodate the next phase of construction and is anticipated to be in place for several weeks.

Macleod Trail / 162 Avenue Interchange project

  • The left lane is closed both directions on Macleod Trail at 162 Avenue S.E. / Sun Valley Boulevard from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily on Monday, August 22 to Friday August 26.
  • Access to southbound Macleod Trail from the shopping Centre located north of 162 Avenue S.E. will close to accommodate the next phase of construction. Traffic will be required to exit the shopping Centre at the west entrance on Shawville Boulevard and connect to either 162 Avenue S.E. or Shawnessy Boulevard to access Macleod Trail.

Glenmore Trail / Ogden Interchange

  • NEW: Various single lane closures in all directions at Glenmore Trail and 52 Street S.E. from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, September 3 and Sunday, September 4.
  • NEW: Various single lane closures in all directions at Glenmore Trail and 52 Street S.E. at varying times between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Monday, September 5.
  • The Shepard Road access south of Glenmore is closed. There will be a new access created at 24 Street S.E. south of Glenmore Trail, west of the existing Shepard Road alignment. Traffic requiring to access Shepard Road south of Glenmore Trial will be detoured via the new 24 Street S.E. exit and then along 86 Avenue S.E. to reconnect with Shepard Road. There will be limited business access north of 86 Avenue S.E. on Shepard Road after detour in place. In addition, the eastbound lanes on Glenmore Trail will be re-aligned into the next stage of construction. The eastbound and westbound lanes will be separated with two new intersections created. Ogden Road will have some alignment shifts north of Glenmore Trail to accommodate these traffic changes.

Southwest

NEW: 5 Avenue S.W. is closed between Centre Street and 1 Street S.W. beginning at 7 p.m. on Friday, September 2. This closure remains in place until 5 a.m. on Tuesday, September 6. Traffic will be detoured in the area via signage. Expect delays and use alternate routes when possible. This closure accommodates deep underground utility work.

NEW: Elbow Drive is closed at 75 Avenue S.W. beginning at 7 p.m. on Friday, September 2. This closure remains in place until 5 a.m. on Tuesday, September 6 and accommodates water main utility replacement. Motorists will be detoured around the closure via signage, and are advised to expect delays and use alternate routes when available.

NEW: 2 Street S.W. is reduced to a single right lane at 8 Avenue S.W. beginning at 10 p.m. on Friday, September 2. This closure remains in place until 6 a.m. on Tuesday, September 6 and accommodates overhead glass work.

NEW: Southbound 8 Street S.W. is closed between 8 Street and 10 Street S.W. from 6 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, September 3. This closure accommodates work on the pedestrian underpass.

NEW: Sifton Boulevard S.W. will be closed between 38 Avenue and 39 Avenue S.W. beginning at 7 a.m. on Tuesday, September 6. This closure will remain in place until 7 a.m. on Tuesday, September 20 and accommodates water utility replacement. Motorists are advised to expect delays in the area and use alternate routes where possible.

NEW: The right lane of 5 Avenue S.W. is closed at Centre Street S beginning at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, September 6. During this closure, southbound Centre Street S will also be reduced to a single lane at 5 Avenue S.W. This closure remains in place until 3 p.m. on Thursday, September 8 and accommodates utility work.

There will be a traffic pattern change at 61 Avenue S.W. between Macleod Trail and Centre Street S. This closure accommodates work on the 61 Avenue S.W. Greenway Corridor project.

The left lane of 9 Avenue S.W. is closed at 8 Street S.W. from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily beginning on Monday, August 29. This closure continues daily during these hours until 3 p.m. on Friday, September 30 and accommodates maintenance work.

The right lane of northbound 8 Street S.W. is closed between 8 Avenue S.W. and 10 Avenue S.W. beginning at 9 a.m. on Monday, July 25. This closure continues until 7 p.m. on Friday, September 30 and accommodates work on the pedestrian underpass.

10 Avenue S.W. is reduced to a single lane in each direction west of 8 Street S.W. until 5 p.m. on Friday, September 23 due to Transportation Infrastructure work.

75 Avenue S.W. is closed between Elbow Drive and 7 Street S.W. with local traffic only on surrounding roads from 7 a.m. on Wednesday, August 24 until 7 p.m. on Friday, September 2 due to water utility work.

Sifton Boulevard S.W. will be closed between 13 Street S.W. and 39 Avenue S.W. beginning at 7 a.m. on Monday, August 22. Traffic will be detoured via Crestview Road S.W. during the closure. This closure remains in place until 7 a.m. on Monday, September 12 and accommodates road construction. Motorists are advised to expect delays in the area and use alternate routes when possible.

17 Avenue S. reconstruction project

  • NEW: 17 Avenue S.W. is reduced to a single lane in each direction between Centre Street S and 1 Street S.W. beginning at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, September 6. This closure remains in place until 9 p.m. on Friday, September 16.
  • 17 Avenue S.W. is reduced to a single lane in each direction between 2 Street and 4 Street S.W. beginning at 9 a.m. on Monday, August 22. This closure remains in place until 7 p.m. on Friday, September 23.

The right lane of southbound 8 Street S.W. between 8 Avenue and 10 Avenue S.W. is closed until October 2016. The west sidewalk on 8 Street S.W. in this stretch will be closed. This closure accommodates work on the 8 Street S.W. underpass project.

The right lane of northbound 4 Street S.W. is closed at 15 Avenue S.W. daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. beginning on Tuesday, May 10. This closure continues daily during these hours until further notice and accommodates utility work.

Crowchild/Flanders Ave Interchange

  • The northbound exit ramps from Crowchild Trail S.W. to Flanders Avenue S.W. are currently closed until late 2016. Motorists will be unable to access Flanders Avenue S.W. via northbound Crowchild Trail S.W. Motorists are advised to use 33 Avenue S.W. or 50 Avenue S.W. via Crowchild Trail as alternate routes.
  • Caen Avenue (from the Currie Business Park entrance to Quesnay Wood Drive) is closed to allow for the utility work necessary for the Interchange construction. This stretch of Caen Avenue will be closed until late 2016. A temporary off-ramp provides access into the Currie Business Park, from Crowchild Trail South to Battleford Avenue.
  • Construction work has begun on Richard Road and eastbound Flanders Avenue. Traffic on Richard Road will be reduced to one lane in each direction (north and sound bound).

Special Events

Shaw Charity Classic Golf Tournament – Friday, September 2 to Sunday, September 4

The following roads will be closed from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily from Friday, September 2 to Sunday, September 4:

  • 14 Street S.W. from Anderson Road to the intersection of Canyon Meadows Drive and Elbow Drive.
  • Residential access will be maintained.
  • Spectators are advised to take public transit and/or the shuttle service, which will pickup at the Anderson CTrain station and at Mount Royal University.
  • Parking will be restricted in residential areas.
  • There is no public parking on the event site.
  • Visitors are advised to use public transit.

Easter Seals Drop Zone - Thursday, September 1

  • The right parking lane of 4 Avenue S.W. is closed between Centre Street S and 1 Street S.W. between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Theatre Junction Back Alley Party – Thursday, September 1

  • The alley between 6 Street and 7 Street S.W. is closed between 1 Street S.W. and Centre Street S from 4 p.m. to 12 p.m. Access to the adjacent parkade will be maintained during this closure.

X-Fest – Saturday, September 3, 6 a.m. to Sunday, September 4, 11 p.m.

  • The right lane of northbound 6 Street S.E. north of 9 Avenue S.E. is restricted to bus and taxi traffic only.
  • Taxis are NOT permitted to park on 9 Avenue S.E. during this closure

Calgary Pride Parade – Sunday, September 4

  • 9 Avenue between 1 Street S.E. and 4 Street S.E. is closed between 7 a.m. and 2 p.m.
  • Macleod Trail from 9 Avenue S.E. to 6 Avenue S.E. is closed between 7 a.m. and 2 p.m.
  • 3 Street S.E. from 9 Avenue S.E. to 7 Avenue S.E. is closed between 7 a.m. and 2 p.m.
  • 9 Avenue S is closed between 11 Street S.W. and 1 Street S.E. is closed from 11:00 a.m. and 2 p.m.
  • 11 Street S.W. between 8 Avenue S.W. and 9 Avenue S.W. is closed from 11:00 a.m. and 2 p.m.
  • 8 Avenue S between 8 Street S.W. and 11 Street S.W. is closed from 11:00 a.m. and 2 p.m.
  • 5 Avenue S.W. connector will be in operation for the event from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Please watch for a large number of police and bylaw officers onsite, and monitor all traffic control devices

Bridges

MacDonald Bridge

​Traffic on 7 Street S.E. may be reduced to one lane from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m from Monday, August 22 until Sunday, October 30, 2016. Pedestrian traffic on 7 Street S.E. will be detoured to the east side of Elbow River for the duration of the project.

Penbrooke Meadows Bridge

The pedestrian bridge connecting Penedo Way S.E. across CN Rail tracks will be closed for structural rehabilitation work from Monday, July 25 until the beginning of September.

Prince’s Island Park Bridge

The Prince’s Island Park pedestrian bridge to Memorial Drive will be partially closed until September 2016 and accommodates replacement of a non-slip coating.

Peace Bridge

The Peace Bridge will be closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. from Monday, July 18 until mid-September for bridge repair. This closure will not occur every night as it is weather dependant. This closure is related to work on Peace Bridge panel replacement.
