Calgary Road Closures - May 1, 2015

Northeast

NEW: Northbound 36 Street N.E. is reduced to a single left lane between 24 Avenue N.E. and 25 Avenue N.E. between 1:30 a.m. and 9 p.m. on Saturday, May 2. This closure accommodates construction.

NEW: The left lane of southbound 6 Street N.E. at 16 Avenue N.E. is closed between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Monday, May 4. This closure accommodates utility work.

NEW: Northbound 36 Street N.E. is reduced to a single left lane between 24 Avenue N.E. and 25 Avenue N.E. beginning at 7 a.m. on Monday, May 4. This closure continues until 6 p.m. on Sunday, May 24 and accommodates construction.

12 Avenue N.E. is closed between Edmonton Trail N.E. and 4 Street N.E. beginning at 6 p.m. on Friday, May 1. This closure continues until 5 a.m. on Monday, May 4 and accommodates construction work.

Northbound 12 Street N.E. is closed between 36 Avenue N.E. and 38 Avenue N.E. beginning at 9 a.m. on Friday, May 1. A two-way traffic setup will be installed in the southbound lanes during this closure, which continues until 9 p.m. on Sunday, May 3. This closure accommodates water utility work.

2 Street N.E. between 5 Avenue N.E. and 9 Avenue N.E. will have various lane closures beginning at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, April 29. These closures will continue until further notice and accommodate utility upgrade work.

The two right lanes of eastbound 16 Avenue N.E. at 19 Street N.E. will be closed daily between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. the following day beginning Monday, April 27 at 9 p.m. This closure will continue until 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 2 and accommodates construction.

The right lane of each direction of Airport Trail N.E. between Barlow Trail N.E. and 36 Street N.E. (in tunnel) will be closed daily between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. beginning on Thursday, April 23. This closure will continue daily during these hours until Tuesday, May 5 and accommodates utility work.

Northwest

NEW: Country Hills Boulevard N.W. east of Rocky Ridge Road N.W. will be reduced to a single lane in each direction beginning at 9 a.m. on Monday, May 4. This construction project continues until the end of June.

Southbound 10 Street N.W. at 2 Avenue N.W. is reduced to a single left lane. This closure remains in place until the end of May and accommodates new development construction.

Eastbound 16 Avenue N.W. will be reduced to one lane east of Sarcee Trail N.W. from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily on weekdays until the end of May due to utility work.

Southeast

NEW: Eastbound 17 Avenue S.E. between Hubalta Road S.E. and 60 Street S.E. is closed and a two-way traffic setup will be installed in the westbound lanes beginning at 7 a.m. on Saturday, May 2. This closure will remain in place until 6 p.m. on Sunday, May 3 and accommodates water utility work.

NEW: The left lane of Glenmore Trail S.E. east of Ogden Road S.E / Shepard Road S.E. will be closed and the speed limit reduced to 50 km/hr. between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturday, May 2. This closure accommodates urgent CN Railway repairs. Alternate routes are recommended and motorists are advised to expect delays.

NEW: Eastbound Glenmore Trail S.E. between Ogden Road S.E. / Shepard Road S.E. and 30 Street S.E. will be closed to allow for roadway repairs between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Sunday, May 3. Traffic will be detoured to 114 Avenue S.E. via Shepard Road S.E. to bypass construction. Alternate routes are recommended and motorists are advised to expect delays.

18 Street S.E. will be closed between Quarry Park Road S.E. and 24 Street S.E. beginning at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 1. This closure will remain in place until 5 a.m. on Monday, May 4 and accommodates construction.

Northbound 11 Street S.E. will be closed and a two-way traffic setup will be installed in the south lanes at 23 Avenue S.E. beginning at 10 p.m. on Friday, May 1. This closure remains in place until 5 a.m. on Saturday, May 2 and accommodates water utility work.

50 Avenue S.E. is closed between 1A Street S.E. and 2 Street S.E. beginning at 9 a.m. on Friday, May 1. This closure will remain in place until 6 p.m. on Sunday, May 3 and accommodates water utility work.

The right lane and adjacent sidewalk of westbound 9 Avenue S.E. at 4 Street S.E. is closed beginning at 9 a.m. on Thursday, April 30. This closure remains in place until 6 p.m. on Monday, May 25 and accommodates construction.

The two right lanes of northbound Macleod Trail S.E. north of 25 Avenue S.E. are closed beginning at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 1. This closure continues until 8 p.m. on Sunday, May 3 and accommodates utility upgrades.

Westbound 6 Avenue S.E. is closed between 5 Street S.E. and Confluence Way S.E. beginning at 6 a.m. on Saturday, May 2. Flagger crews will direct traffic in the area during this closure, which remains in place until 6 p.m. on Sunday, May 3 and accommodates construction.

Various lane and sidewalk closures on 9 Avenue S.E. between 3 Street S.E. and 5 Street S.E. daily between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. beginning Wednesday, April 29. These closures will continue during these hours daily until Monday, May 25 and accommodate construction.

8 Avenue S.E. is closed at 5 Street S.E. beginning at 7 a.m. on Wednesday, April 22. This closure will remain in place until 5 p.m. on Thursday, May 7 and will accommodate road construction.

94 Avenue S.E. between 52 Street S.E. and 60 Street S.E. will be closed beginning at 7 a.m. on Monday, April 20. The closure will remain in place until 8.pm. on Friday, July 31 and accommodates new road construction.

The existing westbound left lane closure and 60 km/h speed reduction will remain in place 24/7 until mid May across the Graves Bridge over the Bow River on Glenmore Trail west of 18 Street S.E. This is the continuation of the Water Services new water main installation, using bridge structure as above ground support to cross Bow River.

4 Street S.E. is reduced to one lane in each direction between 9 Avenue S.E. and 8 Avenue S.E. until September 30. This closure is needed to facilitate the construction of the +60 pedestrian bridge at the National Music Centre.

Southwest

NEW: The left lane on northbound and southbound Crowchild Trail S.W. at 54 Avenue S.W. will be closed and the speed limit reduced to 50 km/hr. between 5 a.m. and 8 p.m. on Saturday, May 2. This closure accommodates roadway and barrier repairs. Alternate routes are recommended and motorists are advised to expect delays.

NEW: 5 Street S.W. between 2 Avenue S.W. and 3 Avenue S.W. will be closed beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, May 4. This closure will continue until 7 p.m. on Monday, June 8 and accommodates +15 construction between Eau Claire Tower and Centennial Place.

NEW: 8 Avenue S.W. is closed at 11 Street S.W. between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Saturday, May 2. Additionally, the northbound lanes of 11 Street S.W. at 8 Avenue S.W. are closed and a two-way traffic setup will be implemented in the southbound lanes during these hours. This closure accommodates traffic signal work.

NEW: Southbound 8 Avenue S.W. is closed at 11 Street S.W. between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Sunday, May 3. A two-way traffic setup will be implemented in the northbound lanes during these hours, and this closure accommodates traffic signal work.

10 Avenue S.W. is closed between 8 Street S.W. and 9 Street S.W. beginning at 9 a.m. on Friday, May 1. This closure remains in place until 10 p.m. on Monday, May 4 and accommodates water utility work.

12 Avenue S.W. between 32 Street S.W. and 33 Street S.W. will be closed beginning at 6 a.m. on Friday, May 1. This closure will continue until 6 p.m. on Friday, May 15 and accommodates sanitary line upgrades.

The right lane of southbound 5 Street S.W. will be closed at 12 Avenue S.W. between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Friday, May 1. The two right lanes of 12 Avenue S.W. at 5 Street S.W. will also be closed during this time. This closure will continue daily on Saturday, May 2 and Sunday, May 3 between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. and accommodates traffic signal work.

The left lanes of both northbound and southbound MacLeod Trail S.W. between 61 Avenue S.W. and Glenmore Trail S.W. will be closed beginning at 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 30. This closure remains in place until 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, May 3 and accommodates median repair.

42 Avenue S.W. between 1A Street S.W. and Stanley Road S.W. will be closed beginning at 9 a.m. on Monday, April 27. This closure remains in place until 6 p.m. on Wednesday, May 6 and accommodates underground utility installation.

Alternating closures on 11 Street S.W. at 8 Avenue S.W. between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. beginning Friday, April 17. Alternating closures will continue on weekdays during these hours until Friday, May 8 and accommodate utility work.

Southbound 12 Street S.W. between 15 Avenue S.W. and 16 Avenue S.W. is completely closed to traffic beginning at 7 a.m. on Thursday, April 16. This closure will remain in place until 9 p.m. on Sunday, May 8 and accommodates Enmax utility work.

Southbound 1 Street S.W. will be reduced to one lane between 9 Avenue S.W. and 10 Avenue S.W. starting Sunday, January 25 to accommodate the 1 Street S.W. underpass enhancement project. At the same time the sidewalk on southbound 1 Street S.W. will be closed. Pedestrians should use the sidewalk on the east side of 1 Street S.W. These closures will be in place until the work on the west side of the underpass is complete.

Calgary Flames

17 Avenue S.W. may experience road closures between 2 Street S.E. and 14 Street S.W. contingent on pedestrian traffic swell following scheduled Calgary Flames’ game on Sunday, May 3. Detour signage will be in place and motorists are advised to expect delays in the area.

Special Events

Safe Cycling Street Fair – Saturday, May 2 – 6 a.m. until 5 p.m.

• 10 Avenue S.W. will be closed between 2 Street S.W. and 4 Street S.W. between 6 a.m. and 5 p.m. for this event.

Firefighter Stairs for Charity – Sunday, May 3 – 6 a.m. until 3 p.m.

• Parking along 5 Avenue S.E. between 1 Street S.E. and Centre Street S will be limited between 6 a.m. and 3 p.m. due to a charity event hosted by the Calgary Fire Department.
