Calgary road closures and lane restrictions press release

Northeast

11 Street N.E. is reduced to a single northbound at 53 Avenue N.E. beginning at 7 a.m. on Saturday, April 1. Southbound traffic will be detoured to 55 Avenue N.E. During this closure, there will be no access to Aviation Park N.E. via 53 Avenue N.E. This closure remains in place until 6 p.m. on Saturday, April 8 and accommodates utility work.

Reduced lanes at 19 Street N.E. and 39 Avenue N.E. daily from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. beginning on Monday, April 3. This closure repeats daily during these hours until 5:30 p.m. on Friday, April 14, excluding Sundays and accommodates utility replacement work.

Reduced lanes on westbound 32 Avenue N.E. at 32 Street N.E. daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. beginning on Monday, April 3. This closure repeats daily during these hours until 3 p.m. on Wednesday, April 12 and accommodates utility work.

Northwest

The intersection of Tuscany Way N.W. at Tuscany Valley Park N.W. will be closed and motorists will be detoured via signage in the area beginning at 10 a.m. on Monday, April 3. This closure accommodates underground utility work for a future fire station project in the area. This closure remains in place until 8 p.m. on Sunday, April 9.

Reduced lanes on westbound 16 Avenue N.W. west of 14 Street N.W. daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. beginning on Monday, April 3. During this closure, the speed limit will be reduced to 50 km/hr. through the construction zone. This closure continues daily during these hours until 3 p.m. on Thursday, April 13 and accommodates construction.

Stoney Trail/ Sarcee Trail Interchange Improvements

  • Daily lane reductions on Sarcee Trail N.W. and 16 Avenue N.W. through the project limits from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. until further notice.
  • The right lane of westbound 16 Avenue N.W. is closed at Sarcee Trail N.W. daily from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. beginning on Thursday, March 2. This closure repeats daily on weekdays until late April 2017.

Southeast

NEW: Reduced lanes on eastbound 17 Avenue S.E. between 30 Street and 36 Street S.E. from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, April 5. This closure accommodates construction.

NEW: Reduced lanes on southbound 18 Street S.E. at 21 Street S.E. daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. beginning on Wednesday, April 5. These closures repeat during these hours until 3 p.m. on Friday, April 7 and accommodates utility work.

Glenmore Trail / Ogden Interchange

  • The Shepard Road access south of Glenmore is closed. There will be a new access created at 24 Street S.E. south of Glenmore Trail, west of the existing Shepard Road alignment. Traffic requiring to access Shepard Road south of Glenmore Trial will be detoured via the new 24 Street S.E. exit and then along 86 Avenue S.E. to reconnect with Shepard Road.

Macleod Trail / 162 Avenue construction project

Southwest

NEW: 5 Street S.W. reduced to a single lane at 7 Avenue S.W. from 6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 4 to 5 a.m. on Wednesday, April 5 for construction.

Riverfront Avenue S.W. will be closed between 1 Street and 2 Street S.W. beginning at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, March 29. During this closure, local only access will be maintained. This closure remains in place until 3 p.m. on Friday, April 7 and accommodates utility work. Use alternate routes.

The two right lanes of 6 Avenue S.W. are closed between 8 Street S.W. and 9 Street S.W. from 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on weekdays beginning on Thursday, March 9. This closure continues daily on weekdays during these hours, and also on Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. This closure accommodates utility work and continues until further notice.

17 Avenue S. reconstruction project

  • NEW: 6 Street S.W. is closed at 17 Avenue S.W. from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 5. During this closure, westbound 17 Avenue S.W. is reduced to a single lane at 6 Street S.W.
  • NEW: Eastbound 17 Avenue S.E. is reduced to a single lane at Macleod Trail S.E. daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. beginning on Wednesday, April 5. This closure repeats during these hours daily until 3 p.m. on Friday, April 7.

Special Events

King’s Own Calgary Regiment 100 Anniversary Vimy Ridge Celebration - Saturday, April 8 – 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.

  • 11 Street S.W. b/w 6 Avenue and 9 Avenue S.W. is closed.
  • Calgary Police Service will be escorting northbound 11 Street to eastbound 5 Avenue S.W., to northbound 9 Street S.W. / 10 Street N.W. and heading westbound on Memorial Drive N.W. to Poppy Plaza.
  • Memorial Drive between 10 Street N.W. and 14 Street N.W. will be reduced to a single lane in each direction from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Calgary Police Service will be escorting eastbound Memorial Drive N.W. to southbound 10 Street S.W. / 9 Street S.W. to westbound 8 Avenue S.W. to 10 Street S.W./Mewata Armory where the service will conclude.

Glencoe Club Ice Breaker 10km Run

  • The right lane of northbound/eastbound Elbow Drive between 32 Avenue S.W. and 4 Street S.W. will be closed between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. on Sunday, April 9.
  • Motorists are advised to keep an eye out for runners in communities adjacent to the Elbow Park area.
  • Calgary Police Service will be on site monitoring traffic.

Alberta Transportation

Alberta Transportation maintains Deerfoot Trail (Hwy.2) and Stoney Trail (Hwy. 201). For more information on work happening on these roads visit Alberta Transportation’s website.
