Calgary Police Service member charged in off-duty incident

A member of the Calgary Police Service has been charged in connection with an off-duty incident in another province.

On Jan. 19, 2018, the member was arrested and charged by the Halifax Regional Police Service in relation to an altercation that occurred on Nov. 12, 2017.

Const. Bryan MORTON is charged with one count of common assault.

Since this incident was investigated by the Halifax Regional Police Service, no further information can be released by the Calgary Police Service.

Const. MORTON was relieved from duty without pay at the time of the incident in relation to an unrelated matter and his employment status has not changed.

Information about this incident and charge are being released in the interests of public transparency.

The charged officer is afforded the right to a fair trial, the same as any member of the public, and they will be offered the appropriate supports from the Service during the court process.
