Calgary police arrest suspects connected to a residential break-and–enter crime ring

The Calgary Police Service has made significant arrests into a residential break-and-enter crime ring within the city of Calgary and surrounding areas. After a month-long investigation, a total of nine criminal charges have been laid against three people, and 23 outstanding warrants were executed.

In mid-April, officers in the Investigative Operations Section identified 25 separate residential break and enters that were believed to have been committed by a group of several associates between Sunday, March 13, and Monday, April 11, 2016. Investigators also believed that five commercial break and enters at rental car agencies, in which vehicles were stolen, were connected to these suspects as well. A formal operation was launched and efforts were made to collect evidence and locate the suspects.

During the investigation, on Thursday, May 12, 2016, at approximately 12:20 p.m., several of the suspects committed another residential break and enter at an address in 100 block of McKenna Way S.E. A vehicle, believed to be stolen in a previous break and enter, was observed leaving the scene and was located at a residence in the 1500 block of Mardale Way N.E. The occupants of the vehicle and the residence were taken into custody without incident.

On Friday, May 13, 2016, a search warrant was executed on the residence and garage located in the 1500 block of Mardale Way N.E., with the assistance of the Tactical Unit. The following items were seized:

  • A stolen white 2016 Ford Fusion
  • A stolen white 2015 Nissan Titan
  • A sawed-off double barrel shotgun
  • A stolen gun safe that had been emptied
  • Numerous stolen license plates
  • Stolen jewelry, cameras, four high end mountain bikes, numerous laptops and electronics, watches and a Sentry safe

The value of the recovered stolen property is believed to be approximately $80,000.

Adam Stewart YOUNG, 33, of Calgary, has been charged with three counts of break and enter, two counts of possession of stolen property and nine outstanding warrants

Brian Robert BLAIS, 33, of Calgary, has been charged with one count each of break and enter and possession of stolen property.

Clayton Wade CHIEF, also known as Clayton Wade MCKAY, 33, of Calgary, has been charged with one count of break and enter, one count of possession of stolen property, and five outstanding warrants.

Alanna HAUCK, 29, of Calgary, was arrested on nine outstanding criminal warrants.

The investigation is ongoing and multiple additional charges are expected as victims are identified and contacted.

Police are currently in the process of identifying the stolen property and returning it to the rightful owners. Citizens who have had property stolen should file a police report online, describing the property and providing serial numbers so police can contact them if the property is recovered.

Citizens are reminded to continue to report any suspicious activity in their community to police by calling the non-emergency line at 403-266-1234, or 9-1-1 for a crime in progress.
