Calgary Firefighters Respond to Basement Fire in Scenic Acres

At approximately 10:45 this evening the Calgary Fire Department was called to the 200 block of Scenic Acres Drive NW for reports of a possible basement fire. Upon arrival to the single family home, firefighters were faced with light smoke and flames visible from the walk out basement at the rear of the home. Crews initiated an aggressive interior attack to quickly knock down the flames. The fire was contained to the room of origin with little structural damage. There were 2 adults and 2 children at home at the time of the incident. The residents were alerted by working smoke alarms and safely self-evacuated without injury. Fire crews remain on scene to extinguish hot spots and perform salvage and overhaul operations. The fire investigator is also on scene but the cause of the fire has not been determined.

The Calgary Fire Department would like to remind citizens that working smoke alarms can help save lives.
