Calgary Fire Responds To Two Alarm Fire In Downtown Core

At approximately 8:45 am this morning, Calgary Fire Department (CFD) crews responded to reports of a roof fire in the 100 block of Second Avenue SE.

Reports are that the fire was witnessed by citizens in the area who called 911 to report the incident. Crews immediately struck a second alarm upon arrival to ensure adequate resources were on scene with approximately 30 firefighters on scene initially. First arriving firefighters were faced with a significant volume of smoke and flame visible from a roof top.

The fire was quickly extinguished by crews extending a hand line up stairs at the rear of the building and advancing the line to the seat of the fire. The building was vacant at the time of the incident and there were no reports of injuries or evacuees. Damage was minimal and there was no extension into the interior of the structure.

The fire is out at this time and a Fire Investigator is determining the cause.

The scene has been turned over to the owner and the insurance company.
