Calgary Fire Rescues Two Teenagers From Pond

Shortly after 3:30 P.M this afternoon the Calgary Fire Department responded to James Mckevitt Road and Spruce Meadows Trail for reports of two people who had fallen through the ice. First arriving crews found two people who had fallen through the ice on an area pond and were unable to self rescue. The male and female teenagers had been in the water for several minutes and were in extreme distress. Fire crews were able to uses ropes to assist both people out of the water and back onto thicker ice and eventually back to shore where they were subsequently transported to an area hospital by on scene Alberta Health Services personnel .

The Calgary Fire Department would like to remind Calgarians to stay off the ice on area ponds and near the river. The recent warm temperatures have started the spring thaw and the ice surfaces are extremely unpredictable.
